PROMOTING INDUSTRY EXCELLENCE ~ Expect the Best ~ Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals

MEMBERSHIP IN THE SPCP -- YOUR JOURNEY BEGINS HERE... The Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals represents professionals in the industry dedicated to promoting the ideals and standards of the SPCP, offering permanent cosmetics that are conducted in accordance with safety standards specific to the permanent cosmetic process, and those who stay abreast of, and participate in industry activities. The Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals is dedicated to promoting permanent cosmetic safety, excellence, and professional standards by providing education, certification, and industry guidelines. Permanent cosmetics, permanent makeup, or microblading; although the titles describing the service may differ within the industry, the service is the same cosmetic tattooing. Permanent cosmetics are specialized services within mainstream beauty industries offering everyone the opportunity to look their best at all times or to look to the permanent cosmetic service to assist with improving the results of medical procedures or trauma to the skin. SPCP: We don t enter the future... We Create it 2 WWW.SPCP.ORG

MEMBERSHIP SUPPORT The Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals (SPCP) was established in 1990 as a nonprofit mutual benefits corporation in California. Simply put, the SPCP was created solely for its members. This member-based society has a current office of operations located near Chicago and retains a California corporate base. The SPCP administrative staff reports to the Board of Directors, which is comprised of member-elected permanent cosmetic professionals or industry suppliers who serve the membership for limited term periods. They collectively and continually monitor the demands of the industry and how the members can best be served. The administrative staff and Board of Directors are available to assist with member needs. Technician Members Trainer Members BOARD OF DIRECTORS ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES Supplier Members Subject Matter Experts SPCP V Quarterly and PC Buzz The SPCP supports its members through regular communication and education. The SPCP V Quarterly is an online magazine. Members often indicate that the Quarterly is a primary reason for maintaining their membership because it provides highly educational articles, current industry information, and updates. The PC Buzz is a monthly enewsletter written by a different SPCP board member each month. Technician Referral Program The SPCP has a listing service for qualified technician members who often report this method of advertising and referral program has helped to launch their careers. The SPCP also exclusively provides directions to the technician referral page to those that contact the office for recommendations. Subject Matter Experts (SME) Many of the SPCP trainer members have volunteered to assist technician members with questions related to permanent cosmetics. This is an invaluable service aimed at providing expert guidance and advice for issues requiring advanced knowledge. Member Discounts The SPCP has a variety of member benefit programs such as an advertising eblast service, supplemental medical insurance, and credit card processing. In addition, many SPCP supplier members provide generous discounts exclusively to SPCP members. Marketing Materials Members can find a host of materials available to help promote their businesses along with confirming to their clients they belong to a prestigious and professional organization. Choose from different brochure designs and logo merchandise to distinguish yourself apart from others. WWW.SPCP.ORG 3

EDUCATION AT ITS FINEST SPCP Books and Publications The SPCP continues to provide the most advanced written materials to support and educate the industry. The SPCP textbook, Permanent Cosmetics The Foundation of Fundamental Applications (in its second edition), and its companion workbook, are used by many trainers for pre-study before their students start class. New and current technicians find the textbook invaluable as a study aid when preparing to take the Certified Permanent Cosmetic Professional (CPCP) exam. (see page 5) There are many other industry related publications available such as Medical Issues, Client Management, Esthetics, Infection Control, and more. SPCP Educational Events Education is the hallmark of the SPCP. The Society was the first to establish guidelines for trainer members and continues to raise educational standards. To support those who meet qualifications and wish to become SPCP trainer members, the SPCP hosts a two-day educational event called Train the Trainer. Attendees have the opportunity to network with others interested in training in order to share educational concepts and permanent cosmetic course development. Recognizing that prevention of cross contamination is critical to any permanent cosmetic procedure, the SPCP offers an industry-specific Bloodborne Pathogens Class presented by an OSHA outreach instructor prior to every SPCP event. Annual Spring Convention & Trade Show Since 1991, the SPCP has held an annual Convention and Trade Show in various parts of the US such as Las Vegas, San Diego, San Francisco, Orlando, among many other major cities. Heralded as the educational event of the year, SPCP Conventions are attended by internationally recognized speakers and members worldwide. Included in this three-day Convention is a exhibitor room with one of the largest gatherings of industry suppliers, many offering substantial discounts on their products and services. Attendees report networking with other members as one of the best parts of Convention - many have made lifelong friends at these events. Annual Fall Conference This two-day event offers continuing educational opportunities at a smaller, more intimate gathering of attendees. The event lineup often includes hands-on workshops and provides exposure to different machines/devices and techniques. Members frequently remark that Fall Conference has become their favorite event, citing the main reason is the smaller group size which allows for greater networking and individual discussions. Regardless of the event, novice technicians and seasoned veterans always look forward to SPCP opportunities for innovative education, personal and professional growth, and new friends or continued relationships. 4 WWW.SPCP.ORG

TAKING IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL: BECOME CERTIFIED... Certified Permanent Cosmetic Professional (CPCP) Why become certified? Many technicians consider themselves to be certified simply because they have a certificate of completion of a course of training in the industry. Under most circumstances, this is not accurate. The SPCP credentialing program denotes a specific level of knowledge related to the profession. The general public, regulating entities, and other professionals in related industries look for professional certification as proof of sound fundamental knowledge. The Certified Permanent Cosmetic Professional exam and certificate represents a mark of distinction. Membership in the SPCP is not a requirement to become a Certified Permanent Cosmetic Professional; however the CPCP credential is proudly displayed by all professionals who hold this prestigious honor. The CPCP credential has afforded some members the ability to be providers approved by insurance companies so that technicians may be compensated for procedures such as scar camouflage and areola tattooing. Members who apply to sit for the CPCP exam do so at a generous members-only discount. Becoming a CPCP represents a level of professional accomplishment as well as an investment in continuing education and career development. It also enhances credibility with the public and other professions. I simply could not be more proud of becoming a CPCP and can t imagine being in this profession without the CPCP credential behind my name. Marilyn Jones, CPCP SPCP Past President WWW.SPCP.ORG 5

ENGAGE Members take great pride in their SPCP membership because they are an active part of its success. They attend events, join committees, write articles, and volunteer wherever needed. Everything that is great about the SPCP is attributed to a team effort between the SPCP administration staff, the board of directors, and the membership community; they are all committed to improving our industry. Now is the time to start a new journey in your career - become an integral part of an organization dedicated to excellence and one that is highly regarded worldwide.
