HILLIARD OPTIMIST CLUB SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM OUTLINE: - Applications for the scholarships are open to all Hilliard High School graduating seniors who can demonstrate that they have participated in a sanctioned Hilliard Optimist Club program and who are attending Hilliard Davidson; Hilliard Darby, Hilliard Bradley High Schools, or Tolles Career and Technical Center (Tolles students must be a resident of the Hilliard School District. Tolles students will compete against students from their home Hilliard High School.) Applicants are subject to the terms, conditions, and qualifications set out below and in the attached materials. Scholarships currently available are: Six (6) $4,000.00 scholarships will be awarded as follows 2 for each high school 1 boy and 1 girl. These scholarships will be paid out at $2,000 per year. Payments will be made for the first and third semesters that the winners can demonstrate they are enrolled as full time students. The winner must enroll as a full time student within 12 months of the award of the scholarship or the scholarship in its entirety will be forfeited. Thereafter, the student must stay enrolled as a full time student in order to receive the remaining $2,000 payment. In addition six (6) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded as follows: 2 for each high school-1 boy and 1 girl. These scholarships will be paid for the first semester that the winner can demonstrate that they are enrolled as a full time student. The winner must enroll as a full time student within 12 months of the award of the scholarship or the scholarship in its entirety will be forfeited. - Scholarship applicants must have applied to a college, university or vocational training program prior to the required interview. - Scholarship winners must be enrolled as a full time student before scholarship funds are awarded. The scholarship funds will be sent by the Optimist Club directly to the college/institution to be applied to the winner s tuition. It is critical that the winners maintain contact with the club and provide current contact information. 1
- Scholarship applications may be downloaded from the Hilliard Optimist Club website at: www.hilliardoptimist.org,or picked up at one of the 3 high school s Guidance Offices. - A scholarship selection committee will determine the recipient. The criteria will include, but will not be limited to the following: 1. Proven ability to succeed in the classroom (GPA & Test Scores). (Include a copy of you High School transcript and your SAT/ACT test results.) 2. Proven participation in a sanctioned Hilliard Optimist Club activity. 3. Involvement and achievement in extracurricular activities. 4. Contribution to community through personal involvement and participation. 5. Demonstrated financial need. 6. Two (2) Letters of Recommendation. 7. A 300 to 350 word essay. 8. Attendance at an interview with Optimist Club members. All decisions made by the Hilliard Optimist Club are final and are not subject to appeal. If the scholarship recipient fails to enroll as a full time student within 12 months of the award of the scholarship, the scholarship will be forfeited in its entirety. - The completed application must be returned to: The Hilliard Optimist Club P. Box 113 Hilliard, OH 43026-0113 Attn: Scholarship Committee Must be postmarked no later than March 30, of your senior year, or turned in to your Guidance Office no later than March 30 of your senior year. Note: If two candidates are otherwise equally, or nearly equally, qualified, preference will be given to the applicant with the greatest need based upon family size and other scholarship offers. Write and attach an essay, 300 to 350 words, double spaced, include your name, on how you have benefited from your involvement in Hilliard Optimist and extracurricular activities. Section 10: Continued Good Character The Optimist Club reserves the right to revoke and terminate the applicants right to receive any scholarship funds in the event the applicant engages in conduct which in the opinion of the Club, in its sole discretion, is detrimental or contrary to the goals and values of the Optimist Club.
