DEGRAFF AUXILIARY BOARD SCHOLARSHIP Marissa Kruk and Marissa Polino Recognized for having met the high standards and having displayed evidence of possessing the qualifications necessary to merit a scholarship award for a medical career, Marissa Kruk and Marissa Polino are hereby named the recipients of the Annual Scholarship Award given by the DeGraff Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. E-NSSA (Erie-Niagara School Superintendents Association): the top 3 graduating seniors were honored at this year's Annual Scholastic Achievement Recognition Dinner. More than 400 students, educators, and business people participated at this event, and the girls were given a specially commissioned crystal bison award and an inspiring message from a guest speaker. GENERAL MILLS SCHOLARSHIP Jill Stachowski In recognition of her hard work and high achievements in the classroom and her commitment to continue her education post-high school, Jill Stachowski is awarded the General Mills Foundation Post-High School Scholarship. GIRL SCOUT GOLD AWARD Libby Overfield The Girl Scouts of Western New York honor high school Girl Scouts from Western New York who have earned the highest achievement in Girl Scouts, the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award. This award challenges girls to change the world. To earn the Gold Award girls must complete two Girl Scout Senior or Ambassador journeys or earn the Silver Award and complete one Senior or Ambassador journey. Girls make a minimum of 80 hours including community service and leadership development curriculum requirements. The leadership skills, organizational skills, sense of community, and commitment to reach this goal set the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship as well as inspiring others to take action within their community. Congratulations Libby Overfield in earning the Girl Scout Gold Award. GIRL SCOUTS OF WNY EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP Victoria Bauda The Educational Scholarship Fund recognizes the achievement and character of graduating Senior Girl Scouts who have achieved their Gold Award. SERVICE (continued) Mother Magdalen Daemen Award (50+ hours each of her 4 years at SHA) The Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity started with the God's call to one woman, Mother Magdalen Daemen, who was inspired by the lives of St. Francis of Assisi and his close follower, St. Clare of Assisi. To quote Mother Magdalen Daemen: "This good work is not my doing. I am quite unable to carry out such a thing or even to think it through. It is God who inspired me with this thought. This is God s work and God will provide." In honor of Mother Magdalen Daemen's vision of service to the poor, we award the Mother Magdalen Daemen Award to any Senior who has completed 50 or more hours of community service in each of her 4 years at Sacred Heart Academy. Each award recipient will receive a framed 4x6 print of Mother Magdalen Daemen. SERVICE (continued) SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR The senior Scholar Athlete of the Year is ranked #4 in the class. She has participated in both a fall and spring sport all four years. A four-year starter on the soccer team, she was part of a stellar defense that allowed only 12 goals in 17 games this season. In the spring, she is on the track team and competes as a sprinter and part of the 4 x 100 relay team. Other than athletics, she is very involved at SHA. She is a member of the STEM Honors program, founder of the Rocketry Club, an editor of the Torch, officer of the National Honor Society, and was named a WNY Scholar Athlete for the fall season.
