Children, young persons and those who are vulnerable have the right to safety and to be protected from any kind of conduct that causes harm. Persons involved in situations where harmful conduct is alleged should be treated with sensitivity, dignity, honesty and respect. The Diocese of Lismore aim to: Protect and support all children, young persons and vulnerable adults in the care of parishes and agencies operating under the auspices of the Diocese of Lismore from psychological, physical or sexual abuse or exploitation. Ensure that any allegation of abuse or exploitation is appropriately managed in accordance with current legislation and in keeping with the social teachings of the Catholic Church. Page 2
Diocesan Model of Works The Role The Manager Drive cultural change across the Diocese of Lismore to ensure that processes, activities and structures incorporate best practice in the science of safeguarding. Develop and lead the implementation of policies related to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults across the Diocese. Establish a Diocesan safeguarding team to ensure compliance with policy through the provision of induction, education and training. Establish and ensure the maintenance of recording and reporting systems for the Diocese. Has overall responsibility for the on-going management of safeguarding complaints and work with those with pastoral responsibilities to ensure best practice. Work actively and enthusiastically with the Diocesan Committee and advise the Head of Agency accordingly. Page 3
Diocesan Model of Works The Role This is a professional role and key skills include: Thorough understanding of the legal environment and compliance requirements for safeguarding and child protection. Superior communication, strong leadership and interpersonal skills with staff, clients, parishes and other faith communities within the Diocese which provides a quality client focused safeguarding service. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and consultatively with senior management teams and committees Excellent time management and organisational skills Experienced in policy development, implementation, education and training presentations. Knowledge of all related legislation with a high level of experience in the practice of the relevant legislation, and legal processes. Experienced in managing and advising in complex case management. Developed interviewing techniques that suit young and or vulnerable people Tertiary qualifications in law, communications, psychology, human resource or similar. This role requires a level of compassion that provides for the protection and support of all children, young persons and vulnerable adults under the care of parishes and their schools and entities operating under the auspice of the Diocese of Lismore from psychological, physical or sexual abuse. This role ensures that any allegation of abuse is appropriately managed in accordance with current legislation and in keeping with the pastoral teachings of the Catholic Church. This role develops and facilitates the effective delivery of services, programs education and or events to staff, clergy and volunteers across the Lismore Diocese. Page 4
