Once inducted into NHS, Membership in National Honor Society is at the advisor s discretion, and can be revoked if these criteria are not met or other inappropriate behavior is shown.
Community service is defined as service offered outside of school hours to a verifiable organization, or an individual who has requested service (tutoring, senior service, etc). through our National Honor Society. You cannot be paid to do community service. All community service performed since your freshmen year must be included on the Community Service Log sheet Argo Activity/Sport Log Junior Candidates: 30 hours of community service Senior Members: 45 hours of community service Your coach/sponsor must sign to verify hours Argo Activity Agreement Essay Mr. Stern or Mr. Thompson will review your essay if you submit it to them by November 24, 2015. You are responsible for scheduling a meeting with Mr. Stern or Mr. Thompson to review your essay. Five Evaluations 3 must be from teachers. The other 2 must be from adults with whom you have volunteered (Coaches, sponsors or community service leaders.) You must collect your evaluation from each teacher/sponsor/coach. You must submit all application materials by 3 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2016. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. After the application deadline, your application will be scored and submitted to the Principal s Committee which is made up of Argo s Department Chairpersons. They will then determine who will be inducted into the National Honor Society. All decisions are final. Mr. Stern and Mr. Thompson are nonvoting members of this committee and do not determine whether or not you are inducted. If you are selected by the Principal s Committee, The National Honor Society induction will be on Wednesday, March 9 at 7 p.m. Once inducted, members are required to perform a yearlong service project along with a one-time service project each semester and any other duties as needed.
Attention Argo National Honor Society Students Willow Springs School Tutoring Club is seeking high school mentors for our kindergarten and first grade students. Are you interested in helping younger students or have you ever wanted to experience teaching first-hand? Are you interested in earning service hours that help to make a difference in our community? I would like to invite you to join us on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from October through March to help our young students succeed in academic areas where they need help. It is a great opportunity for service hours. Our hours for tutoring are 3:15 4:15 here at our school. We will begin officially tutoring students on Tuesday, October 6 th. Our last tutoring day before winter break will be Tuesday, December 15 th. After the holidays, we will start meeting again January 5 th and continue every week on Tuesdays and Thursdays until the 17 th of March when we commence. I hope that you will be able to join us.
