Dear Parishioners, On the cover of the bulletin, we have a picture of our students in Grades 3-5 who participated in our Summer Religious Education Program. In these grades, we have their parents teach their children the faith at home. At Church, we offer programs to supplement this home teaching. The theme of the Summer Program this year was "Creation. God created everything but His greatest creation was us. The children enjoyed the week and learned different aspects of our faith. I received a letter from Cardinal Seán expressing his heartfelt gratitude and congratulations for reaching our 2018 Catholic Appeal goal. He extended his sincere thanks to all the parishioners of Saint Joseph Parish for their financial contributions and for all that they do to evangelize through their witness to our faith. Your generosity provides much needed support to ministries throughout the Archdiocese and your active participation in the life of the Church gives us hope for the future. This weekend, we welcome Doug Campbell, Executive Director and Co- Founder of Hands Together - a Catholic mission outreach working in Haiti. Hands Together runs free schools, medical clinics and nutrition programs in Cite Soliel, providing 25,000 daily school meals and helping thousands of people who struggle to survive. Their work is founded upon the Catholic social teachings of the dignity of human life and proclaims God s infinite and absolute love for us. There will be a special collection to support this mission. I will be available for confession this week on Tuesday, July 24, from 2:30 p.m. 3:00 p.m. May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs. God love you, 2

Reflection of the Week We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give. HOLY HOUR A time of quiet music & reflection Sunday 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. PRAYER GROUP Hour of praise and charismatic prayer Monday 7:30-8:30 p.m. BIBLE STUDY Scripture Reading & Discussion Tuesday 7:30 p.m. HEALING SOAKING PRAYER Come meet us to pray for healing Wednesday 6:30 p.m. Thursday 2:00 p.m. Spiritual Teaching The Art of Forgiveness One afternoon I spent two hours at an art exhibit The Father & His Two Sons: The Art of Forgiveness in which all of the pieces were focused on Jesus s parable of the prodigal son (see Luke 15:11 31). I found Edward Riojas s painting The Prodigal Son especially powerful. The painting portrays the once wayward son returning home, wearing rags and walking with his head down. With a land of death behind him, he steps onto a pathway where his father is already running toward him. At the bottom of the painting are Jesus s words, But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion (v. 20 kjv). I was deeply moved by realizing once more how God s unchanging love has altered my life. When I walked away from Him, He didn t turn His back, but kept looking, watching, and waiting. His love is undeserved yet unchanging; often ignored yet never withdrawn. We all are guilty, yet our heavenly Father reaches out to welcome us, just as the father in this story embraced his wayward son. Let s have a feast and celebrate, the father told the servants. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found (vv. 23 24). The Lord still rejoices over those who return to Him today and that s worth celebrating! ~David C. While on the operating table she has a neardeath experience in which she sees God. She asks him if this is the end of her life. God tells her no, she has another 40 years to live. After she recovers, she s so upbeat that she stays in the hospital and has a face-lift, liposuction and a tummy tuck. She has a beautician come in to change her hair color and style. As long as she s got another 40 years to live, she figures she might as well make the most of it. The woman walks out the front door of the hospital after the last operation and is run over by an ambulance. In front of God, she wails, I thought you said I had another 40 years? God replies, Sorry, I didn t recognize you. 6
