JOB SUMMARY: Participate as a member of the medical team in providing care as well as monitoring and evaluation patients/ clients Collaborate with other disciplines and health care staff to ensure optimum care for clients /patients Participate in quality improvement activities MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provide outpatients / emergency care and refer appropriately 2. Assess and implement management plans for patients 3. Undertake out-of-hours duties as specified by head of unit/dept 4. Perform surgical operations / clinical procedures within competency 5. Assist specialists in major surgical operations 6. Appropriately refer patients beyond competency 7. Provide support and information to patients / relatives as and when necessary 8. Perform bedside laboratory investigations 9. Conduct / participate in : o Ward rounds o Clinical meetings o Morbidity / mortality meetings o Clinic pathological conferences o General staff meetings 10. Constantly update knowledge 11. Provide in-patient care 12. Accurately and legibly record patients care and management packages 13. Participate in district health programmes as and when required.

ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION: MB.ChB/BDS. Or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years working experience as a Senior medical Officer (SMO) OR Medical Officer /MO with master s degree in a relevant field Continuous professional training across a wide range clinical and management issues. EXPERIENCE: Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team environment Supervisory /Team leader experience Experience of managing and organising own workload Involvement in peer reviews Research experience KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of the (GHS) Patient s Charter Knowledge of Health and Safety Broad knowledge and understanding of quality assurance issues Broad knowledge of clinical protocols Broad knowledge of MOH/GHS policies and operating procedures Broad knowledge of health and management related issues SKILLS AND ABILITIES Surgical skills Advanced life support / resuscitation skills Excellent interpersonal skills, report writing and presentation skills Analytical and problem solving skills Ability to demonstrate and participate in effective team work Ability to relate to people from differing backgrounds Working knowledge in computer application
