CALL FOR RESEARCH POSTER ABSTRACTS 2017 NAMA Conference April 21-23, 2017 Doubletree Hotel Oak Brook Oak Brook, IL (Chicago Airports Midway MDW & O Hare ORD) conducted by the Research Poster Selection Committee. Final selection will be completed by January 15, 2017, after which formal invitations will be issued. The 2017 theme is: Ayurveda and the Evolution of Modern Medicine The 2017 conference team is expanding the conference offerings by creating an opportunity to share research being done by and within our community. We are now extending a call for RESEARCH POSTER ABSTRACTS based on research work in the realm of Ayurveda. POSTER SELECTION Selection of presenters is based on: The Author(s) expertise in and knowledge of the topic for which he/she is applying to display and present during the research session Scientific/Ayurvedic integrity of information presented in the abstract Review of materials submitted as requested in the format defined below A rigorous peer evaluation of all submissions will be made using defined guidelines by multiple reviewers. There is currently no limit to the number of abstracts that will be accepted, however it is possible that not everyone who submits an abstract will be invited to present a poster. When submissions are received, they are first reviewed for completeness as required in the application, so please provide all information requested in the format required to expedite the review process. Deadline for presentation submissions: December 31, 2016 Submissions received after this date will not be considered. Abstract/Poster selection will be POSTER CONTENT Poster Authors are prohibited from offering a sales or a promotional type presentation, or featuring their products or services in any of the presentation materials. The poster must be educational and utilize the principles of Ayurveda in achieving the outcome of the research, case study, or investigation. TOPICS CONSIDERED There is no limit to the topics that will be considered for review; however, it is important that the use of Ayurvedic concepts and techniques be at the forefront of the work. Topics may include clinical trials, basic science research, case studies, and methodology considerations, keeping in mind the application and interpretation of data using Ayurvedic concepts. The formal Poster Session is scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, April 23rd from 2:00-4:30. The Presenting Author of the work should be available to present on site at the poster during this time (Only one Presenting Author per poster). NAMA will offer all selected Authors complimentary registration for April 23rd which includes lunch. Banquet Dinner tickets can be purchased separately if you so desire. POSTER AUTHOR RECOGNITION Posters will be evaluated for original research content. Posters and their authors may be recognized as Moving Forward Ayurveda and receive special recognition for their work and their abstracts will be published in the Ayurveda Journal of Health. Evaluators will review the
work and attend the special research session to hear the Authors briefly present their work and answer questions. Recognition will be made at the reception preceding Saturday evening s banquet. If not in attendance at the reception, those chosen will receive a letter of recognition after the Conference is over. Additionally, NAMA will award of an acknowledgement gift to the poster that is identified as having the greatest potential impact on the future of clinical practice. CONSIDERATION FOR POSTER PRESENTATIONS The Presenting Author (one per Poster that is selected for display) will be offered the following: Early Bird Discount Registration Fee as is appropriate to their Registration Type, i.e., Student Member, NAMA Member, or Non- Member, regardless of when the Author or designated Presenter registers for the conference. This is the lowest possible Conference registration rate and includes the full Conference with meals. It is designed to help you prepare and submit the documents needed in the correct format to expedite the evaluation of all submissions. AGREEMENT FOR POSTER PRESENTATIONS A signed agreement will be required for each invited Poster Author to clarify all arrangements between NAMA and the Author. All submitters should be sure they understand the allowances that will be offered and by submitting agree to the limitations therein. The Authors of any posters that jurors recommend for publication will also be required to sign an agreement with the Ayurveda Journal of Health related to the publishing of their abstract in the Journal. ADDITIONAL POSTER AUTHORS OR COMPANIONS Should any designated Author desire to be accompanied by additional authors or companions, those authors or companions will be required to register and pay for the full conference or Day Pass for the day attending. 2017 NAMA Conference Poster Topic Guidelines The theme of this year s conference is Ayurveda and the Evolution of Modern Medicine and poster topic submissions are encouraged to expound on this theme. All submissions will be considered but the topics MUST include a strong and relevant focus on Ayurvedic principles and concepts. Posters are intended to showcase a single program, project, or scientific paper in a graphic format. The best posters usually make up to three main points comprising the take- home message you want to get across. Clarity and brevity are paramount; save details for handouts and/or oral discussion. Please use the following Guidelines: Content should reflect original research done by the Author(s) themselves. Prospective clinical trials, systematic literature reviews, meta- analyses, intervention/study protocols, pragmatic/observational trials, innovative research methodologies or whole system designs and case studies are all acceptable, as long as Ayurvedic concepts or approaches are the primary focus. For research where any personally identifiable client or participant information is displayed, a signed release for permission of use from the client must be included in the submission. Although the number of Authors per poster is not limited, only one individual should be identified to be the Presenter at the Conference and will receive the discount consideration. POSTER DISPLAY GUIDELINES Poster dimensions must not exceed 36 H X 48 W. Title Choose a sans- serif, easy- to- read typeface, 1 min. in height (3 font for titles is best). Headings Use bold- faced lettering, at least 1 2 high. Caption each section - Abstract, Literature research, Hypothesis etc. clearly. Abstract title, Author name(s), and Author affiliation(s) should appear at the top of the poster. Plan the layout of your components carefully, considering both the flow of information as well as the visual balance of graphics, text and blank space. Graphics Photos, diagrams, plans, sketches, or charts with limited explanatory text can be used. Make sure all graphics can be clearly viewed from 3-6 feet away. Use clearly legible font type; avoid serifs and cursive type fonts, avoid font colors other than black. Text Use at least 18-24- point font for all paragraph text. Keep paragraph length and complex sentences to a minimum. The poster should be self- explanatory for viewers to obtain a good synopsis of your project. A project notebook may be placed by the poster to provide detailed information for attendees to review. Be ready to orally explain your research to attendees of the Poster Session and the judges. Bring plenty of handouts or copies of your printed abstract to hand out, if appropriate. Details can be elaborated on during the poster session. During those times, you will have an opportunity to interact with attendees and explain your project. Authors are encouraged to either fit all components on to a single 36 h x 48 w poster board or have such printed by a professional printer (Kinko s FedEx Office or other) on a single 36 h x48 w laminate that can hung using standard push pins and can be rolled up for easy transport.
