Bethesda Hospital Incorporated Position Description Date: Position Title: Reports to: Clinical Nurse MPaCSS Clinical Nurse Consultant - MPaCSS SECTION 1 Position Summary The Clinical Nurse is responsible for: Working collaboratively with the Area Health Team and Palliative Care Service to achieve agreed targets contributing to the achievement of overall strategic objectives of the Organisation. To provide nursing services to the Area Health Team in a manner that reinforces an interdisciplinary approach to the care of patients, their families, carers and providers and upholds the philosophy of palliative care. Providing clinical expertise and nursing consultancy as requested, within the scope of the Area Health Team contract. Providing coaching and mentoring of staff, students, and referrers with the aim of increasing the capacity of staff within facilities to deliver effective palliative care. Perform the business of a private hospital; take appropriate action and follow up to help ensure realisation of results Provides consultancy to nursing, medical, and allied health care professionals both within the hospital and in the community, within the scope of the Area Health Team contract. Provides assistance with advanced and complex patient care as well as expert consultancy and guidance. Investigate and apply contemporary best practice approaches in all areas of role. Maintains excellence in interpersonal skills and use of leadership and mentorship to guide appropriate patient/client care and or service delivery. Promotes a multidisciplinary team approach to decision making. Develops innovative techniques for complex problem solving. Develops implements and promotes evidence based standards and policies that are compliant with relevant professional, industrial and legislative requirements which influence patient/client care. Participates in the coordination and implementation of quality improvement activities. Develops, implements and evaluates education and training programs. Identify learning opportunities for health professionals, within the scope of the Area Health Team contract, which will build the communities capacity to care for palliative patients and their families. Provides a public relations function for the Area Health Team. Participate in the review of current and relevant policies and procedures. Maintenance of external reporting requirements and accreditation status. Timely resolution of reported risk indicators. High satisfaction rate from patients, families staff and key stakeholders Supervision of and participation in workplace projects. No. of precepted students Customer Satisfaction Surveys. Collection/collation evaluation and reporting of patient/health professional outcomes data. No of new referrals to Area Health Team. Page 6 SECTION 4 Authority Levels The Clinical Nurse reports to the Clinical Nurse Consultant, and functions within the management limitations and governance agreed by the Executive Manager Clinical Services. SECTION 5 Selection Criteria Qualifications Essential Registered Nurse qualification and current registration Current Police Check (no more than 6 months old). Current Western Australian driver s licence (C class) with no restrictions. Desirable Qualifications in or working towards further education in palliative care Tertiary qualifications in palliative care or significant progression towards the attainment of a post graduate qualification in palliative care. Knowledge Essential Quality improvement and risk management frameworks Expert knowledge and application of research and best practice principals. Current Best Practice in Nursing Desirable Clinical specialisation Skills Ability to deliver education and training sessions, both formal and informal Well developed written and verbal communication skills Well developed organisation and time management skills and ability to work autonomously Keyboard and Computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets Experience Essential Expert clinical knowledge in Palliative Care, demonstrated by at least five (5) years experience in the specialty. Commitment to improving own knowledge base and performance. Precepting staff and students. Desirable Community or Aged Care experience.
