Combat s Journey... The big idea 2005..well at least the first of many. 2008 to 2010 (Spain) - Developed IP, proof of concept, built first system and completed all initial tests. Gain CE mark and first patients in Spain start of 2011. First publication 3 April 2014! We did this the hard way and on our own... After good initial results we identified we need large clinical trials to become a standard of care.so we need a lot money and people 2012 Combat moved to UK UK plc 1% worlds population, 3% of GDP and is responsible for 16% of world innovation. Raise funding - 60% of European venture funding comes from UK because SEIS, EIS, VCT fund scheme Potential access to more grants More innovative environment - Medtech Campus, Knowledgeable Angel investor networks, Venture Fest, SEHTA Better Corporate tax advantages R&D tax credits, patent box Better access to highly qualified professionals Better perception Internationally Did it work and what happened?

Raised 3.3m in 4 rounds from UK SEIS/EIS & Hong Kong Investors. 70,000 ERDF with help of Medtech Campus. 100,000+ R&D tax credits Applying for 5m+ in grants (UK, US & Chinese) Currently fund raising for up to 3m for accelerated commercialisation to and supercharge further R&D and clinical work.

Grants & other types of financial support Innovation hubs and centres.now appearing UKTI Grant Innovate UK (Enterprise Europe) European Reg Dev Fund (ERDF) Meditech Eurostars Horizon 20:20/SMART NIHR i4i University affiliations & hubs (UCLH, Medcity, SEHTA, Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Anglia Ruskin, Imperial) SBRI CRUK Foreign investment grants Newton Fund Chinese local investment incentives US (massive amount available 56bn but you need to find partner)

Planning to win grants So we know there are large pots of cash available but there is a lot of confusion and mystification. Combat won grant 70k low carbon Applying for grants needs forward planning and hard work to make a successful application, it takes around 100 hours work to make a good application..it is a lottery. Collaboration & good partners. Average success rates varies between 10-35%. There is little help available in making applications. PNO Consultants (Europe), Freemind consultants (US) & Specialist consultants

Did the move to the UK work? YES So far UK PLC has provided an excellent platform for Combat Initiatives and networks such this are essential and bring value So if at first you don t succeed try, try, try again!
