Position Title Flagstaff AOD (FAOD) Practitioner Classification & Stream (if Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services industry Award 2010 (SCHCADS) Level 5 applicable) Division The Salvation Army / Southern Territory / State Social Command / Adult Services Network (ASN) Reports to FAOD Team Leader Date Jan 2018 Primary Purpose of the job To provide a range of AOD interventions in the Adult Services Network, primarily within Flagstaff Crisis Accommodation Service and The Open Door accommodation service, including: Provision of evidence-based Brief Interventions and Care & Recovery Coordination (CRC) Assistance to clients to access and navigate mainstream AOD treatment Facilitation of evidence-based, therapeutic AOD groups and delivery of group work Provision and promotion of an in-house Harm Reduction strategy and system, including maintenance of a secondary NSP Contribution to the development and maintenance of an AOD information and data collection system About the FAOD program About The Salvation Army Australia Flagstaff AOD, operates a primarily harm-reduction service focussing on engaging residents of Flagstaff and The Open Door around safer using practices, providing psycho-education and information on safer practices and health promotion and facilitating access to the mainstream drug treatment service system. The program also delivers Care & Recovery Coordination courses of treatment to residents of the facility. The annual target for these is 40 courses. Expected Outcomes Service Delivery Conduct ongoing risk assessment for clients using agreed tools Respond to risk in accordance with network protocols, ensuring compliance with TSA risk management policies and procedures Ensure DHHS risk reports are identified and processes completed as required Support AOD practitioners & associated workers in dealing with clients assessed as at imminent risk Use ongoing assessment skills to develop, adjust and expand treatment plans in agreement with engaged clients Document assistance and information, safety planning, relating to substance use and common health and other impacts, reflecting service provision Document evidence-based interventions to maintain and increase client motivation and capacity in relation to treatment Complete client file and other reporting mechanisms as per Network protocols, tracking recovery progress Follow up CRC clients at intervals specified in the sector role definitions Support reengagement to AOD treatment system as needed Maintain computer based case management recording systems and data collection in accordance with Adult Services and funding body expectations Program Administration and Reporting Work practices comply with relevant legislation, including WHS regulations, network Policy and Procedure documents Notify relevant workers of damage, service and maintenance needs for program vehicles Communication systems are used as required including inotes (email & calendar) SAMIS, ITPs, intake/assessment forms, and client lists AOD activities & interventions including out of scope activities recorded Contribute to Quality Improvement including review and audit processes Participate in Performance Planning and Reviews system with direct line manager Adapt to changes in the organisation and program as they arise and as amended by approved changes to position description Harm Reduction Develop an opportunistic engagement framework to engage facility residents regarding AOD use Promote safer using through provision of equipment, information and training Assist in the operation of the secondary NSP Participate in NSP training In conjunction with the team leader, oversee equipment, information & supplies relating to the NSP and information board/kiosk (stock control, storage & ordering) Provide information and education through individual sessions & group work Maintain harm reduction measures

Relationships Identify and engage incoming potential AOD clients Provide secondary consultations and specialist knowledge as directed by the Team Leader FAOD Promote knowledge of and access to the AOD service system within the Adult Services Network Develop and maintain facility, sector and other relevant stakeholder relationships to ensure homeless clients have priority access to services Scope The FAOD Practitioner provides AOD service delivery at Flagstaff Crisis Accommodation facility in West Melbourne and in part, at The Open Door accommodation facility in North Melbourne, and at other sites as directed. Qualifications and Experience Capabilities Diploma in Community Services (AOD), prefer undergraduate in relevant field If foundational qualifications not in AOD, Certificate IV in or Minimum Qualifications Skill Set AOD (or able to complete within the first 12 months of employment, assistance may be provided) Competencies in dual diagnosis (or able to complete within the first 24 months of employment, assistance may be provided) Job Competencies Alcohol & Other Drugs Demonstrates knowledge of AOD sector including role, context, principles, philosophies, policies, regulations and legislation Understands and applies AOD models, approaches and theories in accordance with the Territorial AOD Strategy [http://www.salvationarmy.org.au/en/who-we-are/publications-reports- submissions/reports--submissions/latest-reports/alcohol-and-other-drugs- Strategy-2017-2018/] Understands and applies a wide range of evidence-based engagement & counseling interventions Demonstrates clinical skills of intervention such as history taking, case formulation, intervention planning, delivery and evaluation Identifies and uses appropriate strategies to deal with challenging or high risk situations including knowing when to deescalate and when to seek assistance Ability to work effectively with people who exhibit multiple and complex needs, including dual diagnosis Administration Uses appropriate information, tools and techniques to gather and analyse information; Undertakes continuing evaluation of client needs Prepares accurate incident reports, case notes and other documents that meet audience needs Monitors and reports on progress against case plans, and makes appropriate adjustments
