Terms of Reference Documentary Video showcasing the activities of Kenya Youth Business Trust Mombasa 1. Background YBI is a network of non-for-profit initiatives helping young people start or grow businesses in more than 45 countries globally, driving sustainable economic development and helping to tackle unemployment. To tackle the challenge of unemployment, BG Group, a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell, and Youth Business International formed a global partnership in 2013 to support under-served youth aged 18-39, to improve the lives of those in their communities through self-employment. Read more about the partnership here. With BG Group, YBI network specifically supports youth in Kenya, Tanzania, Canada and Trinidad and Tobago. YBI s Member, Kenya Youth Business Trust Mombasa (KYBTM) supports young entrepreneurs with a combination of financial and non-financial services training, access to finance and mentoring and together we would like to showcase through a short film the work that they do now and the activities they plan to do in the future (more information here). 2. Project Youth Business International in partnership with Kenya Youth Businesses Trust and funded by BG Group are seeking a consultant/consultants to create a short film (approx. 3-4 mins) to showcase the programme s development, expansion, results, impact and future. 3. Objectives In this short video we will seek to: Capture the local socio-economic-politic context in relation to youth, entrepreneurship and employment in Kenya more broadly; KYBT Mombasa s importance as a local solution to youth unemployment driving sustainable economic development; Showcase the activities, staff and impact of the programme both in Mombasa and more recently in Kwale, South Coast; and Showcase future plans with a view to presenting this to future potential donors and supporters. 4. Project deliverable The film incorporate the following: Length: 3-4 min Style: live action, subjective view. Perhaps filmed from a moving vehicle (boda-boda) and presented through the perspective of the driver who we envisage as being one of the young entrepreneurs that KYBTM have supported. Audience: 1. Key stakeholders in Kenya 2. BG Group a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell 3. County Government in Mombasa and Kwale
4. Existing and potential global partners of YBI Potential 5. Future audiences to be confirmed in meetings with the KYBTM team Content to be discussed but some initial ideas include: o Using a GoPro like device for a subjective perspective showcasing young entrepreneurs, supported by the programme and their businesses o Filming/potentially interviewing people from local communities benefitting from businesses of the interviewed entrepreneurs. o In addition see Objectives above o Interviews with key stakeholders to include the following (at a minimum): Entrepreneurs who have benefitted from the programme A volunteer business mentor A representative of KYBT M A representative of BG Shooting scenes: We envisage this to mainly be outdoors Release channels Format should be YouTube and then be released via o KYBTM s website http://www.kybtmombasa.org/ o YBI s website www.youthbusiness.org o BG Group a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell http://www.bg-group.com o Media outlets such as NextBillion.net o Social Media outlets Facebook and Twitter 5. 6. Duration of the Assignment The assignment is expected to be completed by 22 September 2016, as per the above timeline. 7. Intellectual Property All information pertaining to this project (documentary, audio, project documents, etc.) which the firm may come into contact within the performance of its duties under this consultancy shall remain as the property of YBI who has exclusive rights over their use. Except for the purposes of this assignment, the information shall not be disclosed to the public nor be used without written permission of YBI. National and international copyright laws will be applicable. 8. Contractual arrangements and supervision The Firm will be hired under Youth Business International s terms of contract and managed by YBI s Communications Manager solely for the purpose of delivering the above deliverables within the agreed time frame. For quality control purpose, both YBI and KYBT Mombasa will be responsible for approving the deliverables. KYBT M and YBI shall provide the necessary support to the Firm in order to execute the assignment during the duration of the assignment, including access to relevant information necessary for the execution of the duties under this assignment. The Firm on the other hand will be required to have all the equipment necessary to execute the task. 9. Remuneration The maximum payment for this assignment is GBP 3,000 inclusive of all taxes and charges) this needs to also cover all travel. Consultant s payment shall be based on the financial proposal developed for this assignment. Payment shall be effected as per the following schedule: 50% upon delivery of concept, film script and a storyboard 50% of project cost upon acceptance of the final output 10. Qualifications 5 and above years experience working in similar field Examples of previous, similar work Extensive experience in producing development work related documentaries for international organisations with the aim of reaching both local and international audiences Excellent technical capacities to ensure smooth and high quality production Local knowledge of different regions in Kenya desirable
11.
