STEM Highlights STEMsmart An initiative by the Gulf Coast Community Foundation in four High Schools and eight Middle Schools www.gulfcoastcf.org Teacher Training Nearly 145 teachers have received training on everadvancing STEMsmart techniques and tools, including inquiry-based learning, TI-Nspire handhelds, Math Next Generation Sunshine State Standards, Science Next Generation Sunshine State Standards, STEM Engineering Academy curriculum, and common lesson planning.

STEM Highlights Externships, Mentoring, and Job-shadowing More than 77 businesses have registered as STEMsmart business partners, agreeing to serve as a job-shadowing or internship host, STEM club mentor, or classroom speaker Five teachers participated in externships at local STEM businesses in 2011-12. Internship sites include Venice Regional Medical Center, Englewood Community Hospital, and DMK Associates
