GPCA PLASTICS EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2018 www.gpcaplastics.com/awards The GPCA Plastics Excellence Awards recognize outstanding initiatives in plastics conversion, plastics process improvement and product development by companies and individuals from the Arabian Gulf region. Now in its eighth edition, the awards are part of GPCA s aspirations and continuous contributions to highlight the untapped potential of the plastic value chain in the GCC region. Furthermore, the GPCA Excellence Awards stimulate cooperation of key stakeholders in the industry and will honor joint fundamental developments from resin manufacturers and plastic converters. The six award categories are designed to reward significant achievements that companies and individuals have made in the fields of material usage, design, manufacturing, processes and environmental performance. For the fifth time, GPCA announces the specialized awards category for students: Fikra: Rising Starts of the Plastics Industry. The 2018 edition of the GPCA Plastics Excellence Awards will take place alongside the ninth edition of the GPCA PlastiCon on 14 March 2018 in Dubai, UAE. The GPCA Plastics Excellence Awards will be hosted by a judging panel of industry experts who will recognize and honor the companies that play an important role in the value chain of plastic production. In addition, the awards will provide an opportunity for supplier companies and OEM manufacturers. OVERWHELMING SUCCESS! Fikra: Rising Stars of the Plastics Industry Due to the overwhelming success now for the fifth time: GPCA Plastics Excellence Awards presents, the Fikra: Rising Stars of Plastics Industry category. It gives students from regional universities and vocational institutes the opportunity to present their innovative product and process improvement ideas to the plastics business community. The competition aims to act as an incubator for young talent and to identify talented students by giving them the opportunity to showcase practical and conceptual products to some of the leaders in the industry. Shortlisted students will present the visual concept (poster) during the event. Winners will be given the chance to discuss their ideas for production and processes with key contacts from the GPCA community, including manufacturers, laboratories, industry professionals, experts and mentors. This category is open for individuals and groups.
CATEGORIES CATEGORY 1: JOINT DEVELOPMENT OR IMPROVEMENTS OF A NEW PRODUCT OR APPLICATION - RESIN PRODUCER AND PLASTIC CONVERTER Innovation and uniqueness of the plastic product and/or application in the market. Close cooperation between resin producer and plastic converter from concept development to execution. Describe the potential. You have jointly developed a plastic product which has been introduced to the market. Plastic resin producers and plastic converters apply jointly in one application. Improvements in sales performance for both: the converter s and the resin producer s companies. The plastic product and/or application is an enabler to export to international markets for the converter. The plastic product and/or application should create new jobs locally and regionally. The raw materials used should be sourced from the region. CATEGORY 2: JOINT PROCESS IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS FROM AN INTERNATIONAL MACHINERY MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL PLASTIC CONVERTER Local plastic converter and International machinery manufacturer have jointly developed a new/improved and innovative process. Describe the cooperation between the converter and the machine manufacturer in detail including the achievements You have jointly improved an existing plastic conversion process. Global machine suppliers and regional converters apply jointly in one application. Product and process are already applied and commercialized. Uniqueness of the product/process concept which is not previously introduced regionally or globally. The produced plastic products should have the potential to export them to international markets. The plastic product must be produced in one of the GCC countries. The raw materials used should be sourced from the region.
CATEGORIES CATEGORY 3: INNOVATIVE AND NEW PLASTIC PRODUCTS AND PROCESSES Uniqueness and innovation of the product or process with new and outstanding features. Products should already be available in the market place with high customer acceptance. Please describe in detailed. You have developed a new plastic product or plastic manufacturing process for the regional or global market. Plastic converters with a connection to the GCC who have an innovative plastic product in their portfolio. The plastic product must be produced in one of the GCC countries. Please name the production sites. The new product/process should have a high potential to export to international markets. Describe the potentials. The new product/process should create new jobs locally and regionally. The raw materials used should be sourced from the region. CATEGORY 4: BEST SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVES IN THE PLASTICS CONVERSION INDUSTRY Innovative sustainability concept for plastic recycling, waste management, product life cycle benefits and/or energy savings. Describe the excellence of your concept. The concept should be unique and not previously introduced regionally. Describe the uniqueness. You have developed outstanding sustainability initiatives in any one or more of the following areas: Plastic recycling and energy saving. Resource and waste management. Product lifecycle management. Promoting and advocating sustainable plastics - community engagement. GCC plastic converters can apply individually or in collaboration with program partners like customers / resin producers / universities / consultants / NGOs / general public/ plastics waste management companies. The related products to the concept should be economically viable. The concept should integrate raw materials from the region. Process and concept must be realized in the GCC region. Process should support the GCC socio-economy. Please describe.
CATEGORIES CATEGORY 5: BEST RESEARCHER IN PLASTICS AND PLASTIC CONVERSION Research results are showing innovations and inspirations for new products, processes and applications in plastics. Results are unique on a regional and an international level. You have achieved outstanding results in your research studies for the polymer and plastic conversion industries. Researchers from universities, academia, research institutions and company research centers. New product design or application are scalable to commercial production. Please describe. Research results with relevance and success probability for the GCC plastics conversion industry. Contribution to sustainable solutions for the region. Product has a strong focus on the markets in the region. FIKRA: RISING STARS OF THE PLASTICS INDUSTRY Research results are showing innovations for new products, processes and applications in plastics with a high degree of inspiration. Results are unique on a regional and an international level. You are a student and can present your innovative product and process improvement ideas. Fiscal prize of AED 10,000 (ten thousand) for the winner of Fikra: Rising Stars of Plastics Industry Competition and the winner of Best Researcher (from regional academic research institutes) applicable to winners who are able to attend the award ceremony. GPCA will cover return economy air fare and up to 2 nights of hotel expenses for 3 shortlisted candidates in the categories Best Researcher (from regional academic research institutes) and Fikra: Rising Stars of Plastics Industry competition to attend the awards ceremony and free passes to attend the GPCA PlastiCon 2018 (applicable to non corporates and to one person per entry).
