Volunteer Health Project Coordinator, New Ireland Position Description Position title: Location: Reports to: Health Project Coordinator Kavieng, New Ireland Province, Papua New Guinea PNG Program Manager Overall job role The Health Project Coordinator role provides technical support and coordination for ADI s monthly rural outreach health patrols and healthcare worker training program (delivered through 2 in-service trainings per year). The Health Coordinator will work closely with ADI s PNG Program Manager (based in Sydney) to implement ADI patrols and in-service training and collaborate with in-country partners to ensure project activities are delivered successfully. The role will involve mentoring and capacity development of ADI Patrol Coordinator (based in Kavieng). The role also works closely with ADI Patrol Doctor (Kavieng), ADI Namatanai Doctor, patrol team members from Kavieng hospital and key stakeholders from New Ireland Provincial Government and the New Ireland Provincial Health Authority. Priorities include working with PNG Program Manager to provide support and assistance to ADI in-country volunteer doctors, regular reporting to ADI Sydney office on project activities, working closely with ADI Finance Manager to ensure financial procedures are followed, and ongoing relationship building with in-country stakeholders including New Ireland Provincial Government. Position Details Coordination Duties Networking and Organisation Representation Represent ADI in networking and collaboration with all major health stakeholders in New Ireland. Including regular meetings with staff from Kavieng hospital, New Ireland Provincial Health Authority and New Ireland Provincial Government. Project Development
Work with PNG Program Manager to oversee ADI project implementation including completing all monitoring and reporting Work in collaboration with the NIPH annual activity plans for collaboration on rural health projects and in-services. Manage allocated program expenditure for New Ireland projects in liaison with ADI Finance Manager and ADI PNG Program Manager. Provide regular in-field updates to the ADI PNG Program Manager on current health issues and state of service delivery in the province. Regularly update briefing documents for volunteers visiting New Ireland Province. Technical Duties Rural Outreach Health Patrol Project Provide ongoing logistical support to ADI volunteer doctors and NIPG Patrol coordinator. Work with the NIPG Patrol Coordinator in organising patrols, promoting the schedule and patrol plans with all team members. Work with Kavieng hospital departments to secure permissions for staff to attend outreach patrols Secure commitment from LLG health managers to participate in patrols and undertake supervision. Ensure patrol reports and financial acquittals are completed and forwarded to the ADI Office after every patrol. Implement monitoring and evaluation, including collection of Clinical Assessment questionnaires, health centre and community evaluations used on Patrol and stakeholders feedback. Prepare and distribute reports required by the ADI PNG Program Manager. Improving Health Services in Namatanai Project Provide ongoing support to the resident ADI volunteer doctor.
Work with New Ireland Provincial Government and Namatanai Hospital Taskforce to assist with the implementation of restoration plan of essential infrastructure and services. Work with ADI doctor at Namatanai Hospital to prepare reports for submission to ADI. Supervision & Management Clinical In-service for Health Workers Project Provide logistical support and planning for the in-service programs. Working with ADI PNG Program Manager, Liaise with New Ireland Provincial Health Authority representative to plan and implement in-service Work with education committee and local stakeholders to finalise participants, venue and logistics. Work with ADI PNG Program Manager to report upon outcomes, incorporate lessons learned and feedback on training into subsequent clinical in-service programs. The Health Project Coordinator is responsible for: Mentoring and capacity development of the ADI Patrol Coordinator The management and smooth operation of the ADI Office in Kavieng, including tidiness and ensuring utilities are paid, maintenance is performed and managing the cleaner Vehicles ensuring the road worthiness of vehicles - including registration, maintenance and allocation Residential accommodation (leased house in Kavieng) ensuring utilities are paid, maintenance is performed, managing the security company and cleaner
Key Selection Criteria Experience Demonstrated successful experience in health management, project management and administration; High level time management and professional organisation skills; Demonstrated ability to analyse health systems and advocate for improvements; Experience in establishing health management systems; Ability to mentor health workers in remote areas and develop and deliver identified training programs; High level skills for capacity building of local health services; Experience working in the health sector in developing countries and/ or rural and remote Australian communities; High level skills in partner and community engagement. Qualifications Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Public health, Health Management and/or Nurse Education and/or International Community Development or other relevant field
