What is the Institute for Global Studies? The Institute for Global Studies (IGS) was created in 2009 to enhance the international dimensions of teaching, research and outreach at the University of Delaware. IGS provides leadership and support for programs and experiences that contribute to the education of informed, skilled, open-minded citizens of the world.

Our Global Legacy UD founded the nation s first study abroad program in 1923, when Professor Raymond Kirkbride proposed a daring new plan to take eight students to France by ship for immersive language study during their junior year. Costs Tuition & Fees + Program Fee + Airfare Tuition for study abroad is the same as on-campus Winter or Summer program = 3-7 credits Summer internship = 1-3 credits Semester program = 12-17 credits Program fees vary by program location, length & design Students purchase their airfare separately. IGS Scholarships UD Study Abroad applicants are automatically considered for needbased awards (current FAFSA required). Awards to students with financial need cover 50-75% of the Program Fee. U.K. 15
The Delaware Diplomats Earn a study abroad scholarship through the Delaware Diplomats program. Engage globally on campus to earn a scholarship toward future UD study abroad Earn up to $1,500. Additional Funding Sources Spain Speak with a Student Financial Services Advisor about financial aid. Contact your academic department or college for funding. Seek outside sources of funding (employers, fraternal organizations, churches, clubs). Apply for scholarships outside UD: Gilman Federal scholarship for Pell Grant recipients Boren Critical language study in underrepresented locations Start planning now for the cost of your study abroad program. 17
Preparing to Apply Get a passport, or renew if needed. Attend the Study Abroad & Global Studies Fair. September 4, 2-4 p.m., Trabant University Center Attend interest meetings to learn about programs. Find a faculty recommender (UD Faculty or TA). Prepare for your interview. Stay out of trouble!
