The Armed Forces Communications-Electronics Association (AFCEA) Quantico-Potomac Chapter plans to award up to fifteen (15) $2,000 High School Senior scholarships, and six (6) $2,000 Undergraduate scholarships in May 2014 to outstanding students from the Prince William County, Stafford County, Spotsylvania County Virginia area, including Marine Corps Base Quantico, City of Manassas, City of Manassas Park and City of Fredericksburg. Subject to the availability of funds and quality of applications, scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled for the 2014-2015 academic year as full-time students in a course of study at an accredited four-year college or university that leads to a Bachelor s degree in one of the Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) disciplines that will prepare the student for a professional career supporting AFCEA s focus on military communications, electronics, information technology, and intelligence systems. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors or undergraduate students. Applicants must be accepted for enrollment during the 2014-2015 academic year in a full-time course of study at an accredited four year college or university in the United States. Enrollment in distance learning programs does not meet this requirement. The applicant s course of study must lead to a Bachelor of Science degree within four years of undergraduate study in one of the Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) disciplines that will prepare the student for a professional career supporting AFCEA s focus on military communications, electronics, information technology, and intelligence systems. Qualifying academic majors include, but are not limited to, Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, Communications, and Nuclear Engineering; Computer Science; Management Information Systems; Mathematics; and Physics. Eligible applicants for High School Senior scholarships include residents attending school in Prince William County, Stafford County, Spotsylvania County Virginia area, including Marine Corps Base Quantico, City of Manassas, City of Manassas Park and City of Fredericksburg. Home-schooled students and students attending private high school residing in Prince William, Stafford, Spotsylvania County Virginia area, including Marine Corps Base Quantico, City of Manassas, City of Manassas Park and City of Fredericksburg may also apply. Eligible applicants for Undergraduate scholarships include residents of Spotsylvania, Stafford, and Prince William counties including cities and towns within those counties. Applicants who have received appointments to military academies or four-year scholarships will not be eligible for AFCEA Quantico-Potomac Chapter Scholarships. Scholarship Application Procedures Scholarship application packages must be submitted by mail with postmarks dated no later than April 15, 2014. The required contents of the application package are fully described in the following pages of this document. PLEASE TYPE OR PRINT NEATLY. Selection: The Board of Directors of the AFCEA Quantico-Potomac Chapter will appoint a Scholarship Selection Committee composed of current Chapter members to review and rank applications. The Scholarship Committee Chairperson will offer AFCEA Quantico-Potomac Chapter Scholarships to applicants in the order of their ranking by the selection committee up to the availability of scholarship funding. Applicants will be asked to confirm their continued eligibility for an award. In the event that a primary selectee does not confirm eligibility for an award, scholarships will be offered to alternate selectees. The Scholarship Committee Chairperson will notify scholarship winners of their final selection for awards no later than May 15, 2014. Award Procedures: Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the Finance Office of the scholarship winner s chosen college/university in the form of a check drawn on the AFCEA Quantico-Potomac Chapter Education Fund account and distributed in half for the fall and spring semesters. The Chapter will send representatives to the 2014 Academic Awards ceremonies at the students schools to recognize the students before an audience of their parents and peers. Quality counts! Attach the following additional documents: Graduating high school seniors - letter of recommendation from your academic counselor or a math, science, or engineering teacher (sealed) - official transcripts (sealed) - letter of acceptance or proof of enrollment from the college or university for the 2014-2015 academic year. Undergraduate applicants - - letter of recommendation from your adviser or a math, science, or engineering teacher. - copy of your most recent college transcript (including Fall courses). Submit Applications by Mail to: AFCEA Quantico Potomac Chapter (Attn: Scholarship Committee) PO Box 1106 Quantico, VA 22134 Mailed applications must be postmarked no later than April 15, 2014 Receipt of all applications will be acknowledged by e-mail The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to confirm any information included in the scholarship application. Any inclusion of false or fraudulent information on the application will immediately disqualify the applicant. If false or fraudulent information is discovered after the scholarship award is announced, the award will be rescinded and the student s high school and college/university will be notified.

Application for 2014-2015 AFCEA Quantico-Potomac Scholarship Program PRIVACY STATEMENT: The personal information requested herein and personal statement(s) will be used to evaluate the applicant s eligibility for scholarships to be awarded by the AFCEA Quantico-Potomac Chapter. The information will be maintained by the AFCEA Quantico-Potomac Chapter and will be released only to individuals who serve on the Chapter s 2014-2015 Scholarship Selection Committee. Disclosure of the information requested is voluntary; however, failure to provide all of the requested information may hinder evaluation of the application and reduce the likelihood of a scholarship award to the applicant. I agree not to contest the AFCEA Quantico-Potomac Chapter s Scholarship Selection Committee s choice of scholarship winners for the Chapter s 2014-2015 Scholarship Program.
