Newsletter Spring 2015 Member Highlights and Congratulations Congratulations are in order! Meghan Burgess of Middlesex Hospital became an Advanced Oncology Nurse Practitioner! Dorothy Carvalho of Middlesex Hospital received her certification from the Board for Urologic Nurses and Associates (CURN). She is now a dual-certified OCN & CURN! Pamela Christman of Smilow Cancer Center in North Haven became Certified Hospice and Palliative Care! Audrey Liu of Middlesex Hospital became an Oncology Certified Nurse! Camille Servodidio of Middlesex Hospital became a Certified Breast Care Nurse! Camille Servodidio was a Hartford Business Journal Health Care Heroes Finalist in December 2014! Gean Brown, MSN, RN, OCN, a CCONS member and the Program Chair, was published in the Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing along with the president of the Oncology Nursing Society, Margaret Barton-Burke, PhD, RN, FAAN, board members Vicki Norton, MHA, RN, OCN and Marlon Garzo Saria, MSN, RN, AOCNS. Also coauthors, AnnMarie Lee Walton, MPH, RN, OCN, CHES, and Alec Stone, MA, MPA who is the Health Policy Director at the Oncology Nursing Society in Washington, DC. The group met at the Nurse in Washington Internship (NIWI). Gean was the recipient of the ONS scholarship to attend NIWI. The journal article is titled: Voices of Oncology Nursing Society Members Matter in Advocacy and Decisions Related to U.S. Health Policy, and is in the December 2014 issue.

Newsletter Spring 2015 CNE Bonanza Update The event was held at on March 31, 2015. We would like to say thank you to our sponsor Gerry from CVS Caremark. There are two open positions which are President Elect and Secretary. The nominees are Lisa Bazinet for President Elect and Amanda Recchini for Secretary. Your vote matters! High School Scholarship Any member s child, from all counties, who has been accepted into a nursing program can apply for the Annual High School Scholarship. The candidate most be a high school senior. The Scholarship winner will be chosen in May. Hurry up and get those applications in! Page 3 2015 Symposium This year s all chapter symposium will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott in Cromwell on November 14, 2015. Mark it in your calendars and spread the word! Save the Date A June 14 th gathering at the Arrigoni Winery for some networking fun is in the works! You don t want to miss out! The Arrigoni Winery is located at 1287 Portland-Cobalt Road in Portland. For those avid winos this winery is part of the CT Farm Wineries Passport Program. At this winery you can bring our own snacks, and a covered pavilion with outdoor space heaters is available if it is a chilly or rainy day. So no excuses - come out to have some fun! CCONS Congress Winner Congratulations to this year s CCONS Congress winner, Audrey Liu from Middlesex Hospital. She will be attending the conference on April 23-26, 2015 in Orlando, FL.
