September 8, 2017 To: Mayor and City Council From: Rick Getschow, City Manager 1. Scheels Open House Scheels will host an open house to discuss their plans for the new Scheels store that will occupy the former Sears space at Eden Prairie Center in 2019. In addition to offering clothing and sporting goods, the new 240,000-square-foot store will feature a 16,000 gallon saltwater aquarium, a Ferris wheel, a wildlife mountain, and various sports simulators. The open house will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19 at Eden Prairie Center in the lower level Community Rooms. Scheels representatives will be on-hand to display drawings and to provide a brief presentation of this proposed project s details. 2. Aspire Eden Prairie 2040 Both the September 19 and October 17 City Council workshops will be devoted to Aspire Eden Prairie 2040. Early in 2017, we launched this multi-year planning process to update our Comprehensive Plan. Residents and stakeholders have been engaged throughout this process, both in person and online, by providing input on topics ranging from commercial development and land use to traffic and community building. We are currently working to prepare a draft plan incorporating the data that has been collected over the past several months. The Council workshops will be devoted to discussing the early drafts of this plan. 3. Energy Action Plan The Energy Action Team that is part of our 2017 Partners in Energy (PiE) initiative with Xcel Energy has now finalized a draft of a new City-wide Eden Prairie Energy Action Plan. The plan will be presented, discussed, and recommended for approval at our September 19 City Council meeting. This initiative will help us put our City s energy goals into action and is being done in conjunction with our overall Sustainable Eden Prairie program. 4. Joint Airport Zoning Board The Flying Cloud Airport (FCM) Joint Airport Zoning Board (JAZB) is scheduled to meet on Thursday, September 21 for the first time since September 2010. The MnDOT review of the FCM Draft Zoning Ordinance prepared in 2010 was put on hold due to legal uncertainties at the time surrounding airport zoning-related litigation. With those legal issues cleared up, MnDOT is now ready to proceed. The Board; consisting of representatives from Eden Prairie, Chanhassen, Bloomington, Shakopee, and MAC; will meet once again to discuss the FCM Draft Zoning Ordinance that will ultimately require MnDOT approval. 5. Collection of One Acts The 13th Annual Collection of One Acts, presented by the Eden Prairie Players, begins next week with performances scheduled at the Riley-Jacques Barn on Sept. 15 16, 21 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 17 and 24 at 2:00 p.m. Play content has been selected for mature audiences and features a mix of comedy and drama. Evening performances are $15-$20 and matinee performances are $10-$15. Tickets can be purchased at the door (cash and check only) or online at www.edenprairieplayers.com for a small additional fee. Please call 952-949-8305 for more information.

6. Staff Update On August 21, we welcomed Jasmine Ellingson as the Park and Recreation Department s new Recreation Supervisor of Aquatics at the Community Center.
