We re incredibly excited to meet you and enjoy the weekend together. Your 2016 Blue Grass Council Venturing Officers

Program KCA Camporee Venturing Guide 2 Friday Evening Crews will be able to arrive Friday afternoon beginning at 4 PM. While no formal program is planned, crews are encouraged to set up their campsite and ensure that all crew members are familiar with the structure of the camporee. There will be an informational meeting around 10 PM in the headquarters tent. All crew presidents and advisors are invited and expected to attend. Valuable information about the Saturday activities will be handed out at this meeting, so you won t want to miss it! Saturday Morning/Afternoon A flag ceremony will be held at 7:40 AM next to the headquarters tent. Immediately following the ceremony, a required briefing on shooting sports will be held. You must attend this briefing if you want to shoot!! Following the required briefing, the Saturday program will begin. Crews will move from program station to program station in a round robin. There will be a total of nine sessions, each fifty minutes long, with ten minutes to move between stations. Crews will be given their rotation schedule on Friday evening. Program stations will include pistol, centerfire rifle,.22 rifle, shotgun, archery, and tomahawk throwing. Specialized Venturing trainings will also be scheduled during certain training sessions. Mentoring and Project Management will be on the agenda, but trainers will also be available to hold both ILSC and certain adult trainings, if so desired. Saturday Evening Following the end of program sessions, a catered dinner will be served in the center of camp around 6 PM. Venturers are invited to pick up their food and eat in the Venturing common area inside base camp. At around 7 PM, dessert will be provided by the Venturing Officers Association (VOA) of the council, and the evening gathering will officially begin. While there will be a fire and crews will have the opportunity to perform skits if they so desire, no formal campfire-type program is planned. Instead, this will be a time for Venturers to relax after a long day, swap stories and ideas with others, and enjoy getting to meet fellow Venturers from across the council and surrounding area. We ll start the business meeting portion of the gathering at around 7:45 PM, discussing the future of Venturing in the Blue Grass Council. Following that, elections for the 2017 VOA officers will begin. For more details regarding elections, please see page 4. Once the elections have concluded, crews are welcome to enjoy the rest of the evening. Sunday Morning We will have a Scouts Own Service on Sunday morning, but crews are welcome to leave as early as desired. For ease of cleanup, we do ask that all crews be off the property by 9:30 AM. Thanks! ~ Please note that all of these times are subject to change! ~

Logistics KCA Camporee Venturing Guide 3 Registration Registration is by crew. You can either register online or with the paper form in this document. Please do your best to bring both a male adult and a female adult to satisfy Youth Protection requirements. However, don t let a lack of adults stop you from coming! Just email president@venturing.bgbsa.net to let us know which one you don t have, and we will be able to provide either male or female adult leadership to your crew. If your crew isn t coming, you can still come as a provisional camper! Just email president@venturing.bgbsa.net and we will match you up with a crew. Camping Venturing crews get to camp in the Venturing base camp, located near the main camp. Crews wishing to camp with their troop may do so. Crews in the Venturing camp will be arranged in a rough circle around a central campfire area and gathering place, which is where the Saturday evening gathering will be held. Bring your own tents, camp chairs, pavilions, and any other equipment you want. Base camp is located in a giant meadow. Porta-Potties will be provided. Ground fires are acceptable as long as flammable grass, etc., is scraped away from the fire area. Firewood will be provided. Food Crews are responsible for bringing and cooking their own food for all meals except for Saturday supper, which will be provided. We will have a dessert item for Venturers during the Saturday evening gathering. Make sure to bring a sack lunch for Saturday you probably won t be able to return to your campsite to eat. Elections KCA Camporee Venturing Guide 4 Overview Elections for the 2017 Blue Grass Council Venturing Officers Association positions will take place during the Saturday evening gathering. The VOA positions which will be filled are President, Vice President of Administration, Vice President of Program, and Vice President of Communications. These positions are open to all Venturers registered with the Blue Grass Council who will be under the age of 21 for the entire duration of 2017. 2016 Election Rules (subject to change) In order to run, Venturers must fill out and sign an Officer Commitment form (see page 7), and email it to advisor@venturing.bgbsa.net by October 11, 2016. They must then be approved by the Council Venturing Advisor. Candidates should read the job description for the office which they are seeking before submitting the commitment form. Descriptions are available at http://venturing.bgbsa.net. Venturers must be present at the election in order to run for office (no absentee candidates). Every youth Venturer from the Blue Grass Council present at the election will have a vote. Adults (over 21) may not vote, endorse, or campaign for any candidate. Voting will be by secret ballot unless an election is uncontested, in which case a public vote of acclamation will suffice. At the discretion of the youth conducting the election, the floor may be opened before the election for nominations that have not been pre-approved. It is strongly recommended, however, that youth interested in running submit the Officer Commitment form in advance of the deadline. Elections will begin with the office of President and will continue down until the election for Vice President of Communication. Candidates who are defeated may drop down to lower offices. During each election, each candidate will have the opportunity to make a two minute speech explaining why they are qualified for the position and what they would do if elected. Speeches will be followed by serious and funny questions from the audience, at the discretion of the youth conducting the election. Questions must be Scouting appropriate, relevant, and directed to all candidates. Each candidate will have 30 seconds to respond to each question. To win, a candidate must receive a majority of the votes cast. In the event of a tie, each candidate will have the opportunity to make a 1 minute speech and answer 1 serious and 1 funny question. A re-vote will then be held. If the tie still holds, the youth conducting the election will break it in favor of the candidate of his/her choice. Subsidiary VOA positions and unfilled officer positions will be filled after the election by the newly elected 2017 VOA, with the consent of the 2016 Venturing President, Advisor, and Staff Advisor. More Information The youth conducting the election will be 2016 Council Venturing President Nathan Vick. If you have any questions, please feel free to email him and ask! president@venturing.bgbsa.net
