2016 ENTRIES The judging panel will be made up of business coaches, trade and consumer media and key independent figures from the beauty industry. To enter, you need to submit a written presentation as outlined in this entry kit and send your entry into Mocha Publishing along with your entry fee by the required date. Closing date for entries is Friday 11th March 2016 Choosing your category or categories Step 1 - Read the entry form thoroughly Select the category or categories that are most appropriate for you to enter Ensure that you understand the criteria for your category Read and understand to all rules that appear on the entry form If you have any questions, phone mocha publishing on 07 5580 5155 Step 2 - Putting your entry together Keep your entry simple Try to keep to an A4 format In your opening statement, attract the judges attention by highlighting anything unique about you or your salon business, and also use this to demonstrate the ambience Step 3 - Sending in your entry Ensure your entry meets the deadline of Friday 11th March 2016 If you would like your entry returned, please notify us in writing in your entry and enclose a stamped addressed parcel envelope or satchel Step 4 - Judging A full list of judges will be published in Beauty Biz magazine and on social media. This independent panel of judges will look at all of the entries Each judge scores individually and the judges scores are then added together to attain the highest scoring finalists and ultimate winners in each category with the exception of Hall of Fame which is industry nominated. Ensure that each of the bullet points within your categories criteria is answered clearly Use bullet points within your entry to help the judges find relevant information easily Where possible, use the criteria statements to head up the page that will be answering that point Ensure that all additional information, ie, photographs, are all secured safely in your entry folder If you are entering more than one category make sure that each entry is unique in its content. The judges can become familiar with repeated entries Photographs should be of a good quality and be provided as hard copy as well as on cd. Where possible, use attachments to provide evidence to back up any statements you have made Judges are looking for answers to all criteria Get a friend to read your entry with an open mind and let them offer constructive criticism All scores are added and finalists will be named based on the highest scores as a short list. If your entry has been short-listed you will be notified. The winner of each category based on the highest scoring entry will be announced at the in Sydney on the night of August 1st 2016. BEAUTY THERAPIST OF THE YEAR This award is given to the Best Beauty Therapist of the Year who shows excellence in the application of beauty treatments specifi cally relating to improving a person s appearance such as facials, hair removal and skincare. Skills can also include excellence in improving health, body shape and wellbeing such as massage, manipulative bodywork and alternative healing therapy. MAKE UP ARTIST OF THE YEAR This award is given to the Best Make Up Artist of the Year who shows excellence in the field of Make Up. Opening statement of up to 500 words explaining what skills and attributes you feel you have to make you the Make Up Artist of the Year including your background and ambitions. In addition to your opening statement, please include the following in your entry:- Real examples of how you have promoted yourself or your business during the last 12 months (February 2015 February 2016) Six photographs which provide a good representation of your work and a written explanation of each photograph including why it was taken, what it was for. BEST TANNING SALON/SERVICE OF THE YEAR This award is given to the tanning salon or beauty salon that shows the highest excellence in environment, customer care, services, menu and training. This award is aimed at tanning salons or beauty salons that offer a tanning service. If the salon offers services other than tanning, the entry details must relate only to their tanning service and not other general beauty services, environment etc. Opening statement of up to 500 words stating why your tanning salon should be awarded as the Best Tanning Salon/Service of the Year and how you have demonstrated excellence. BEST CUSTOMER CARE AWARD BEAUTY This award is given to the Salon/Spa who can demonstrate excellence in the area of customer care. Opening statement of up to 500 words explaining what practices and procedures you implement in your salon or spa to make you an award winner. In addition to your opening statement, please include the following in your entry:- Real examples of how you offer superior customer care. An explanation of how you look after your customers before, during and after a visit to your salon or spa A description of your unique customer care service and what sets you apart. Four to six photographs which back up your entry to show customer care practices/services or environment How you keep up-to-date to ensure that you are at the forefront of your profession? BEST MARKETING AWARD Beauty Biz This award is given to the salon or spa that shows excellence and success in a marketing plan/campaign during the period of February 2015 February 2016. The winner will have demonstrated innovative and distinct marketing with proven results. This could apply to an overall marketing campaign or period or could be, for example, a new initiative which brought in a new customer base such as the implementation of a successful social media campaign. Opening statement of up to 500 words stating why your marketing policy sets you apart from the competition giving general details of your marketing plan or strategy. In addition to your opening statement, please include the following in your entry:- General details of your marketing plan/campaign Outline ways in which the plan/campaign was innovative and original in, for example, its: - impact and relevance to the target audience and time frames to be implemented - use of media and/or distribution methods of information/services - presentation (format, copy, illustration, animation, use of technology, etc) Comment on the objectives and if goals were achieved in dollar value and future business How successful and cost effective were the results in relation to the objectives and budget On a single sheet give specific examples of marketing pieces (eg newspaper ad, mailbox flyer, email, SMS, social media event etc) accompanied by brief notes explaining how and where the piece(s) were used, the number of clients brought in, total sales and Return on Investment. BEST SALON TRAINING AWARD This award is given to the salon or spa that shows excellence in training for staff and management during the period of February 2015 February 2016 Opening statement of up to 500 words explaining why salon training is important to you and your salon and how you identify areas of training for you and your staff In addition to your opening statement, please include the following in your entry:- Specific product or service training programs you and/or your staff have completed in the period Who you have worked with in terms of your training and why If the training has been conducted on or off site and why How you keep up-to-date to ensure that you are at the forefront of your profession when it comes to skills What plan s you have for future training What additional qualifi cations have you and/or your staff achieved in the period Required Logo and photo of Salon/Spa Single page description of the Salon/Spa and relevant history to date Additional Qualifi cations achieved by you and/or your staff in the period Any other documentation to support your entry

HALL OF FAME The Hall of Fame provides the ultimate peer recognition awarded to the person who has made an outstanding contribution to the Beauty industry throughout his or her career. We will be asking the industry at large who they believe to be a worthy Recipient of this award as well as entrants to the and when sending your entry into one of the 12 categories available we invite you to nominate who you think should be the recipient of this years Hall of Fame Award. All nominees will be judged on their significant and/or long term contribution to the beauty industry. Their accomplishments must be worthy of industry recognition and they must be seen as a person of integrity with the values of an individual who shows pride and excellence in their chosen career or field. Nominations for this category are accepted from both entrants and non-entrants to the. THIS IS A NOMINATED AWARD BOTH BY ENTRANTS AND INDUSTRY INDIVIDUALS AND THEREFORE CARRIES NO ADDITIONAL ENTRY FEE

Opening statement of up to 500 words stating why your beauty salon should be awarded as the Best Salon of the year and how you have demonstrated excellence. DAY SPA OF THE YEAR by Entrants may be a hotel based spa or individual boutique style day spa but must have full spa facilities including water, steam or other heat experiences in addition to relaxation areas and treatment rooms. A high level of service is essential for entry in this category. This award is given to the day spa that shows the highest excellence in facilities, environment, customer care, services, menu and training. Opening statement of up to 500 words stating why your day spa should be awarded as the Best Day Spa of the year and how you have demonstrated excellence. How do you support your team through industry initiatives Give details of what team building activities and/ or initiatives you have in place to ensure team integration and motivation? Give details of what new activities have you undertaken as a team? Opening statement of up to 500 words explaining what skills and attributes you feel you have to make you the Beauty Student/Apprentice of the Year In addition to your opening statement, please include the following in your entry:- What level you have completed in your training and how long you have been a Student/Apprentice What Therapy skills you are learning and what you are already proficient in. BEST MENS GROOMING SERVICE NEW CATEGORY BARBER SHOP This award is given to the salon or spa that can offer the Best Mens Grooming facility or services and are able to show the highest excellence in environment, customer care, services, menu and training. This award is aimed at a Mens Grooming Salon or general beauty salon that offers specific mens grooming. If the salon offers services other than mens grooming, the entry details must relate only to their mens grooming service and not other general beauty services, environment etc. By definition, mens grooming is to include and be predominantly beauty services, but can include hair services also. Opening statement of up to 500 words stating why your mens grooming services should be awarded as the Best Mens Grooming Services of the year and how you have demonstrated excellence. NEW CATEGORY BUSINESS DIRECTOR/ OWNER OF THE YEAR This award is given to the Best Salon Director/Owner who can demonstrate excellence in Motivation of individuals and the team, Interpersonal skills, Business acumen, Marketing, Innovation and Management style. This award is restricted to an individual(s) who owns a beauty salon or spa. Opening statement of up to 750 words explaining details of your career to date, including where you trained, employment history, aims and ambitions for the future both for you personally and in your business In addition to your opening statement, please include the following in your entry:- Details of additional training you have undergone to continue to excel in your field Examples of how you have promoted the beauty industry continually in a positive light through every channel available to you, within the salon environment, the local area and in the beauty industry at large. This can include Business Service providers such as Business Coaches, Business Consultants or Industry associations. This award is not open for entry to product companies, software providers or financial/insurance institutions. NEW CATEGORY NATIONAL WHOLESALER OF THE YEAR Beauty Biz This award is a free to enter nominated event. Wholesalers from around the country are nominated by their clients and salons to be recognised for their customer service, business skills, educational support, wealth of knowledge and variety of products and services offered. This category is open to Wholesalers only and not open to entry by Product companies Wholesalers by definition, who are able to enter this category, are those who act as an intermediary entity in the distribution channel that buy and stock a variety of products from product companies or importers in bulk and then sell to salons and spas. Product companies cannot either enter or vote in this category Wholesalers can drive promotional activity to their customers to vote but CANNOT vote for themselves. Nomination and voting is strictly for salons and clients whether they be salon or home based. Voting is accepted up to the closing deadline of the 1st May with State Winners being announced on 16th May 2016.
