Position Information: Scope of Role: The counselling service aims to support positive behavioural change in AOD clients through the delivery of innovative, evidence based therapeutic counselling interventions to individuals and their families in a recovery orientated framework. This occurs through face to face, online and telephone counselling as well as group programs and day programs. This position will be part of a multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering effective evidence based interventions and ongoing assessment treatment planning and care co-ordination. The counselling program works closely with the Care and Recovery program for complex clients and those transferring from bed based programs. There is also a strong focus on the needs of families/carer and dependent children including conducting short session family work and facilitating both internal and external referrals as appropriate. Key Objectives, Duties and Responsibilities 1. Provide high quality comprehensive assessment, treatment planning and the appropriate use of evidence based counselling interventions including brief interventions, family interventions, cognitive behavioural therapies, motivational enhancement therapy, social behavioural therapy and targeted group work. 2. Undertake AOD assessment of voluntary clients 3. Maintain an appropriate caseload of clients with some Care-Co-ordination responsibilities where appropriate. Liaise with care and recovery coordination regarding care planning, referrals and progress. 4. Work flexibly to meet people s varying needs, including Aboriginal clients, clients with an Acquired Brain Injury ( ABI) and Forensic Clients, providing outreach as appropriate 5. Address the associated needs of families and dependent children and identify with the client, the involvement of family members. 6. Create and sustain strong interagency connections with, local Aboriginal Services, Corrections and Court Services, Housing, Child protection, Family services, Employment services and others. 7. Ensure client records and other documentation and data collection is maintained at a high level. 8. Participate in clinical and peer supervision, actively giving and receiving feedback. 9. Provide secondary consultation where required. 10. Staff are to keep informed about current research in healthcare relevant to your role by maintaining professional knowledge and responding appropriately to unsafe or unprofessional practice, fulfilling duty of care by attending training as provided by LCHS and seeking further relevant training externally. Integrating organisational policies and procedures in order to provide effective and professional care in a way that respects the rights and beliefs of all individuals yet maintains practice within own approved scope of practice. 11. An understanding of the needs of Aboriginal and other CALD communities 4. Ability and experience in working with Mental Health and Forensic clients and those who have an ABI. 5. A demonstrated understanding of care coordination principles and practice and the ability to operationalize these principles 6. The ability to work independently and within a team to meet targets and timelines in a demanding and changing environment 7. Demonstrated high level communication skills with the ability to engage and influence at an individual and group level across a wide range of stakeholders 8. EMDR. Other Job Requirements: All incumbents must satisfactorily meet the security check criteria prior to appointment.
