RESOLUTION NO. 2011/ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DEERFIELD BEACH, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION IN THE BROWARD COUNTY SUNSHOT INITIATIVE GRANT PROPOSAL. WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Energy announced the availability of $12.5 million for 20-25 cooperative agreements; and WHEREAS, projects are intended to foster strategies to overcoming barriers to using photovoltaic (PV) solar energy in residential and small commercial structures; and WHEREAS, Broward County and its partners would apply for Phase 1 and Phase 2 projects; and WHEREAS, if funding for the program is approved, the City agrees to contribute in kind services valued at approximately $30,000; and WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Deerfield Beach, Florida believes that it is in the best interests of the City to participate with Broward County in the Sunshot Grant Initiative Proposal; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DEERFIELD BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Andrews Avenue Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33301 Re: SunShot Initiative: Rooftop Solar Challenge Grant Dear Mayor Gunzburger: The purpose of this letter is to extend our commitment to participate in Broward County s SunShot Initiative: Rooftop Solar Challenge Grant Program. If funding for this program is approved, the City of, representing a population of, agrees to make personnel available as needed throughout the life of the grant, by contributing in-kind staff time or other resources valued at a minimum of $30,000. This includes: (1) A point-person to coordinate staff activities related to the grant, ensure appropriate training is completed with respect to implementing the streamlined permitting database, and attend periodic stakeholders meetings; (2) Existing Building Officials to provide technical and administrative assistance required to support the project s goals and objectives; (3) Planning & Zoning Officials to provide technical assistance regarding municipal policies and procedures; and (4) IT staff to provide appropriate maintenance of municipal websites, attend website trainings related to the streamlined permitting database, and offer educational courses to affected staff. In return, I understand that the City of will receive software/database access to establish the streamlined permitting system developed by the grant, free-of-charge. In addition, we will be eligible to be designated as solar friendly by the Department of Energy upon successful completion of Phase 1 of the grant. Our city supports the collaborative effort to reduce market barriers and lower non-hardware costs of Photovoltaic (PV) systems in Broward County and is happy to be listed as one of the primary partners. I understand that our role as a partner is a significant responsibility and I look forward to participating in this project.
