JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Post No: Department: Location: Grade: Salary: Hours: GO Wales (AtWE) Project Opportunities Assistant ND015XX Employability Careers Service Cyncoed/Llandaff as required 4 A/B 23,879 28,452 per annum Full Time 37hrs per week Tenure: Fixed term until 31 st March 2019 Accountable to: GO Wales Project Coordinator Role Summary: To provide support to Cardiff Met s GO Wales Achieve through Work Experience project Team in their work with students under the age of 25 requiring higher levels of employability support. To be the first point of contact for students referred to the project as potential participants and to guide them through the application process. To coordinate and administer the process of participant Employability Assessment using the project s dedicated assessment tool. To support Project Advisers in referral of students to appropriate internal or external departments.
To be the first point of contact for employers who contact the GO Wales team to express an interest in hosting student work experience and to work in conjunction with Project Advisers to convert expressions of interest into engagement with the project. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 1. To deal with incoming enquiries to the GO Wales project office by email, phone and in person, responding or referring on as appropriate. 2. To liaise with individual students to establish basic eligibility and coordinate the production of required documentary evidence. 3. To facilitate individual students undertaking the Achieve through Work Experience Employability Assessment using the dedicated online assessment tool ensuring that, after assessment, the associated sections of the GO Wales online database are fully completed. 4. To report to Project Advisers regarding individual student assessment results to enable Advisers to make a final decision on acceptance onto the project. 5. To administer the re-assessment of students progress against the Employability Assessment measure after each work experience intervention. 6. To maintain regular contact with participants throughout their period on the project. 7. To Monitor progress of a varied and complex group of student participants, using hard-copy records, the GO Wales online database and CareerHub to produce regular reports and analysis for the GO Wales Project Coordinator which will inform development of both short-term project initiatives and the strategic direction of the project at Cardiff Met. 8. To provide support for the processing of employer placement subsidy and participant expenses claims. 9. To discuss with candidates, via email or face-to-face meetings, their preferences for type of taster, duration/timing any special arrangements etc. 10. To work with candidates and employers to ensure all relevant paperwork is completed to the necessary standard and within agreed timescales, ensuring that participant records and admin systems are kept up-to-date and accurate using the appropriate systems and financial procedures required by Cardiff Metropolitan University and HEFCW.
11. To support students with CVs, covering letters and application forms in line with agreed standards. 12. To enter details of Work Tasters and placement opportunities to Career Hub in line with agreed policies. 13. To maintain knowledge of relevant opportunities in Career Hub in order to support students to identify appropriate opportunities. 14. To prepare regular written reports for GO Wales Project Advisers on the latest participant registrations. 15. To ensure that work tasters and placement opportunities are shared with student participants through social media channels. 16. Using Career Hub, maintain a database of registered participants and potential work experience opportunities to facilitate matching for tailored work experience outcomes. 17. To support employer events as directed by the GO Wales Project Coordinator. 18. To undertake research into potential employer hosts and conduct initial discussion by phone, email or face-to-face meetings with employers with a view to securing new Work Experience opportunities, reporting on them appropriately to the GO Wales Project Coordinator. 19. To build relationships with employers. From the initial approach and going out to employers to identify opportunities, through to evaluating their experience of working with the GO Wales Achieve through Work Experience project. 20. To develop and maintain own knowledge of local, regional and national labour markets. 21. To regularly review processes and make recommendations for improvement. 22. To support students, university staff, and career service colleagues to use Career Hub by acting as first point of contact for technical enquiries. 23. To participate in the development and delivery of generic skills workshops including CV-writing, application forms and job-searching techniques. 24. To identify any online resources which would be useful to students to develop their employability and signpost them accordingly.
25. To undertake project work on a regular basis as directed by the GO Wales Project Coordinator. 26. To undertake relevant professional development opportunities as agreed with line manager. 27. To work in line with the behavioural framework agreed for the Careers Service. 28. To Supervise and oversee the training of Junior and/or Casual Administrative project support staff employed during periods of high activity requiring additional support. 29. Any other relevant duties commensurate with the grade of the post. Additional Information: This post is funded under the GO Wales programme, which is managed by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales and sponsored by the Welsh Assembly Government with additional funding from the European Social Fund. Apportionment of the GO Wales Achieve through Work Experience Project Adviser s activity will be 41% to West Wales and the Valleys and 59% to East Wales These guidelines are provided to assist you in the performance of your contract.
