THE COMPACT DEPARTMENT OF ELEMENTARY EDUCATION ERASMUS GUIDE ERASMUS, the European Union's flagship mobility programme in the field of education and training, was established in 1987, and the University of f Patras has been an active participant for many years. ERASMUS which stands for "EuRopean Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students" was named after the philosopher, theologian and humanist Erasmus (1465-1536), who lived and worked in several countries in Europe. His quest was for the knowledge, experience and insights which only such contact with other countries could bring. Originally part of the SOCRATES programme, Erasmus has, since 2007, been a sub-programme of the EU's Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) http://ec.europa.eu/education/lifelong learning programme/doc78_en.htm. LLP/Erasmus supportss two types of students' mobility: mobility for the purposes of studying in Member States in higher education institutions placements in enterprises, training centers, research centers or other organizations. ERASMUS scholarships are partly financed by the European Union. Grants are awarded only within the framework of Bilateral Agreements between two Universities, or more as in the case of networks, from different countries. The amount of scholarship varies depending on the countries of destination and the length of stay. Each university has its approved procedure for selecting which students will come to the UPatras. The nomination of students is based on bilateral exchange agreements in specific subject areas. Once you have been nominated, you must complete the UPatras Erasmus Application Form for 2014-15 (which will be available here in due course).
