My mom is fearless. She taught me and my brother how to in-line skate. She insists that we ride in the first car of the rollercoaster at the amusement park. And she let me have thirteen of my very best friends stay overnight on my last birthday. Last fall my mom got cancer. It was the first time I ever saw her scared. I was scared, too. Doctor Olson was great. She took care of our whole family. She told us exactly what was going to happen and how we could help. Dr. Thomas, a general surgeon, did Mom s surgery in Cannon Falls so we could all be there for Mom when she woke up. Dr. Olson says, To be in family practice when a family needs me most is my specialty. We coordinate all the health care needs of our patients, call in specialists when needed, then provide follow up care right here in Cannon Falls. Gail Olson, M.D. Family Practice Working with Dr. Olson to arrange the surgery at Cannon Falls was great, said Dr. Thomas. Cannon Falls community... Local Heroes. I ve been a volunteer fire fighter for 30 years, an EMT for 34 and I ve always had sinus trouble, says Ron Freeberg. Smoke from the fires irritated my sinuses so much, I couldn t be on call for a couple of days after a fire. Then Roger Haggstrom told me about a sinus surgery that really helped him. Roger says, Dr. Patterson performed my surgery using a computer-assisted technology called VTI. Cannon Falls is one of the few hospitals that can do it. I told Ron he should try it because it sure helped me. Now we re both breathing easier. First responders like Roger and Ron need all their senses in top working condition. So do you. Matthew Patterson, M.D.,FACS Otolaryngologist Dr. Patterson says, As an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist, I treat sinus problems, hearing trouble, ear infections and much more. I like performing surgeries in Cannon Falls because I m confident in the skills of our surgical team and I know my patients will get compassionate care after the procedure. Radiologic Technologist Loren Garlets operates the VTI machine that shows Dr. Patterson a real time image of the patient s sinuses during surgery. the Consult Clinic 507-263-7975. 2003
Ribbit. Ribbit. Last week I had a frog in my throat and Mom said I felt hot. She took me to see Dr. Trojanowski. I was nervous, but she told me not to worry. He sees lots of kids my age so he s used to big, strong guys like me. Dr. Trojanowski was pretty cool. He gave me some medicine, told me to lay low for a few days and said Popsicles might help the frog in my throat. I didn t know frogs ate Popsicles. Z. Trojanowski, M.D. Family Practice Dr. Trojanowski says, I ve practiced medicine all over the world, from Poland to South Africa, from Alabama to Wisconsin. I m happy to be in Cannon Falls, treating families in this vibrant and growing community. Family Practice specialists such as Dr. Trojanowski should be your first call for help, for a frog in your throat or something more serious. They are also your gateway to specialists and other medical resources. We have five family practitioners and a physician s assistant right here at the Cannon Family Health Center. Making an appointment to see one of them is easy and convenient. 2003 *Patient names are omitted to protect privacy.
Cannon Falls community... She saved my life. I felt like a freight train had just run over my chest. It was the middle of the night and I was having a heart attack. There was no time to waste. My wife, Jo, called 911. Two EMTs who live nearby came running and were at our door within minutes. When the ambulance arrived, they loaded me up and we took off for Community Hospital. I don t remember much after that, but they tell me Dr. Suchomel saved my life that night. I m doing fine now, thanks to Dr. Suchomel, Community Hospital and our fine EMTs. They were there for me when I really needed them. Dr. Suchomel says, Caring for a high volume of emergency patients keeps our skills sharp. That s good for us as physicians and good for our community. In a medical emergency, a few minutes can make the difference between life and death. Heart attack patients, like Herb Johnson, have much better outcomes when they receive medical treatment within the first 20 minutes. 2003
My life is here. The kids say I should move to California and live with them, but my life is here. With help from Home Health Services, I can continue to live independently in my own home. The aides do the grocery shopping, the laundry and help me with my bath. A nurse stops by once a week to check up on me. I couldn t manage without them. Maybe someday I ll move to California. After all, I ve never seen Disneyland. Until then, Home Health Services helps me stay where I m happiest in my own home. Lauren Beamon, R.N. Home Health Services Michelle Regenscheid and other Home Health Aides bring groceries, do housework and assist as needed. Lauren Beamon says, Home Health Services makes independence an option many people wouldn t have otherwise. We give people the help they need to remain in their own homes. But we re not just for seniors. If you temporarily need assistance after surgery or a major illness, we re here to help you get back on your feet. *Patient names are omitted to protect privacy. 2003 Thanks to Dorothy Sarkela for being our model.
Whoa, Nelly! When you break as many horses as I do, you end up breaking an arm or a rib every now and then, too. I ve visited emergency rooms from Maine to Montana, but I ve never been treated as quickly or as well as I was at Cannon Family Health Center. At some ERs, I ve waited as long as six hours to see a doctor. In Cannon Falls, Dr. Turna saw me right away.he set my broken arm and got me back in the saddle again in no time. At Cannon Family Health Center, your family doctor is also an emergency room specialist. Whether you re treated in the clinic, the hospital, the nursing home or the emergency room, you ll receive convenient, high quality medical care by members of your own community. Dr. Turna says, I ve worked in an inner city clinic in New Jersey and large hospitals in my native India, but I prefer practicing medicine in a small town setting. I took special training in rural and small town medicine while at the University of North Dakota in Minot. Here in Cannon Falls, I get to know my patients in a way that just isn t possible in a larger healthcare system. T. S. Turna, M.D. Family Practice Alice Suchomel,.M.D., Family Practice T. S. I love it. I was so disappointed when my insurance plan made some changes. Cannon Family Health Center wasn t included on the new list of participating providers. The closest clinic in the new network was 45 minutes away.who wants to make that drive when you don t feel well? I ran into a friend who has the same insurance I do. She was going to the clinic in Cannon Falls and still getting the preferred provider rate. It turned out I could keep going to Cannon Family Health Center. I just needed to call my insurance company and ask. I m still seeing my own doctor in Cannon Falls and I love it. They know me here and they treat me like family. Jim Jaquith says, Cannon Family Health Center is a preferred provider for hundreds of different health insurance plans, but not all of them list us in their published materials. Patients pay less out-of- pocket expenses when they use a preferred provider.
