Carefully refer to them often for answers to your basic questions. 1. General a. Completed application forms together with all available supporting documentation must be submitted to the Scholarships and Awards Committee, Ministry of Education, not later than 1 st April, 2013. b. An exception is made with respect to the up-to-date transcript, which must be submitted to the Scholarships and Awards Committee by not later than 1 st July, 2013: c. A maximum of eight (8) Bermuda Government Scholarships are awarded annually. 2. Eligibility The Bermuda Government Scholarships Act 2008; includes, inter alias, the following provisions: a. The applicant must be a British Subject, born in Bermuda or, if not born in Bermuda; i. The child of at least one parent who possesses Bermudian status under the provision of the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Act 1956, or, ii. The child of at least one parent who possessed at the time of the parent s death, Bermudian status or Bermudian domicile under the provisions of the Immigration Act 1937. b. The applicant must have been educated in Bermuda for a minimum of five years. c. The applicant must satisfy at least ONE of the following requirements: i. Possession of no less than two subjects of the General Certificate of Education at the Advanced Level; ii. iii. iv. Successful completion of the two-year Associate Degree Program at the Bermuda College (or an equivalent institution); Successful completion of the first year at an approved college or university; Documentary evidence that the candidate has successfully completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma program; v. Documentary evidence that the applicant has successfully completed a secondary program approved by the Ministry of Education that, for the purpose of this regulation, qualifies the candidate for entry into college or university. d. The successful applicant is required to demonstrate outstanding academic performance. e. The successful applicant is required to demonstrate participation in extra-curricular activities and in community service. f. The applicant must be not less than seventeen years of age and must not have passed his/her twenty-third birthday by 1 st October, 2013. g. Short listed applicants will be interviewed in July 2013. 3. Value The Bermuda Government Scholarship is tenable for a general term of three years, at a college or university outside Bermuda and approved by the Ministry of Education and provides funding to cover the costs of: (i) (ii) (iii) Tuition Accommodation payable at the university rate for a single student staying in a dormitory One airfare ticket upon initial entry to university and a return ticket upon conclusion of the scholarship award. 4. Conditions a. The Bermuda Government Scholarships will be paid each year in two installments. (i) The first installment of two-thirds of the amount required will normally be paid at the start of the applicant s academic year, (ii) The second installment of one third will be paid by February of the following year. Payment is conditional upon receipt of an official certificate of registration together with a class schedule showing the number of credits attesting to the holder s registration at his/her college or university. b. All funding for the 2013/2014 academic year must be collected by 31 st March, 2014 or the award granted will be forfeited. c. The successful applicant is required to submit to the Scholarship Administrator, Ministry of Education, by 15 th January, 2014 (or as soon as is practicable thereafter) and by 15 th June 2014 (or as soon as is practicable thereafter) an up-to-date academic transcript for the 2013/2014 academic year. d. A Bermuda Government Scholarship holder shall not, except in such circumstances as may be approved by the Ministry, while he is such a holder, accept additional scholarship or bursary funding from any person or body only in Bermuda. e. The Ministry of Education reserves the right to cancel the Bermuda Government Scholarship if the academic work or conduct of the holder proves to be unsatisfactory. 5.
