The Feast of the Solemnity of Mary, The Holy Mother of God A Holy Day of Obligation New Years Eve Thursday, December 31 4:00 pm St. Aloysius Church 4:00 pm Most Holy Name Church New Years Day Friday, January 1 8:30 am St. Anthony s Chapel Thanks to all of those who so generously gave food, cookies and gifts to Fr. Garvey and myself at Christmastime. We are grateful for your thoughtfulness and pray that the New Year will be filled with blessings. Eucharistic Adoration & Veneration of the Relic of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton at St. Anthony's Chapel On Sunday, January 3rd at 3:00 pm, we will begin to pray the Church's evening prayer before Christ in the Eucharist. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in the monstrance at the beginning of evening prayer and the service will conclude with Benediction, Christ imparting His blessing to us in His Eucharistic Presence. Following the service, the faithful who wish to do so will have the opportunity to venerate a relic of one of the saints. For January, it will be the relic of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. For more information, please visit www.saintanthonyschapel.org Mass Requests for 2016 Mass Requests for 2016 are being accepted. Please remember to include a stipend of $10 per request. Checks should be made out to the appropriate church. DECEMBER 27, 2015 Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph "He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them." We might be tempted to think that Jesus more or less raised himself. As the Son of God, it might appear on first glance that earthly parents would be a mere formality for this particular child. But it wasn't so. Mary and Joseph had real influence, and real authority, over their son. Although Jesus apparently understood from a tender age how he related to God ("Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?"), he also knew that he owed appropriate respect to his parents. This is why he stayed in their home in Nazareth and was obedient to them. And because of this obedience, clearly Mary and Joseph must have been deeply influential in his life. Their direction, their teachings, their example, and their rules would all have shaped Jesus in his humanity. It was thanks in no small part to the matriarch and patriarch of the Holy Family that Jesus "advanced in wisdom and age and favor before God and man." We should be advancing in these ways too! And those of us who are parents are likewise called to direct and guide our children to develop as Jesus did, not only forming our sons and daughters to succeed in the eyes of men, but also leading them on the path of "favor before God." The Holy Family serves as a beautiful model for us in this regard. They help us learn how to submit our lives to the loving leadership of our heavenly Father. But more than this, Mary and Joseph also serve as intercessors who, like any faithful family member or friend, want to pray with us and for us. Let us turn, then, to the intercession of the Holy Family asking that our families may be holy too. Christmas Flower Memorials The Christmas Flower Memorials will be printed in the January 10th bulletin due to early bulletin submissions. Thank you all for the generous donations.

We were very thankful to have Father Garvey join us to answer our questions. New friendships were made and all of us certainly have grown in our faith. We are taking the winter off but will resume our sessions on Monday, April 4, 2016 at 7:00 p.m., reading and discussing Rome Sweet Home by Scott and Kimberly Hahn. All are welcome to join us. The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph December 27, 2015 A Family Perspective By Bud Ozar - Today s gospel contains this truth about parenting: but his parents did not know. One of the reasons parenting is so difficult is because our children don t tell us everything. If the Holy Family experienced growing pains with their teenager, why do we think it will be easier for us? St. Vincent de Paul Society - Today is the feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, and so we can celebrate that we all belong to the holy family of God which makes us brothers and sisters to each other. At Christmas this year, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to bring the joy and hope to our brothers and sisters by assisting many families with utility and rent bills. Thank you! Family Movie Night @ Holy Spirit / St. Nicholas Parishes - on Saturday, January 9th at Holy Spirit Parish Cafeteria in Millvale where The Lego Movie will be shown.
