ANNUAL ULI WASHINGTON SUPPORT WHY YOU SHOULD SUPPORT ULI WASHINGTON Thoughtful, detailed programming that convenes leaders and decision makers in the real estate industry and beyond, and provides useful take home value. Exploration of the most important issues impacting land use today including infrastructure, access to capital, regional growth, public-private partnerships, and sustainability, among others. Association with a strong real estate organization that crosses all disciplines, sectors and product types throughout the Washington region. A professional staff that makes sure you get the most out of your investment in the district council. THE MISSION ULI Washington depends on sponsorships to fund over 75% of its operating budget for the year. The mission of the Urban Land Institute is to provide leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide. A portion of your sponsorship may be tax deductible. Please check with your tax advisor for more information. ULI Washington recently adopted a new Strategic Plan. Implementing this plan is the priority of the district council. The Plan calls for an enhanced focus on Impact at the local level in the following areas: DISTRICT COUNCIL THEMES 2017 2018 HOUSING AFFORDABILITY The conventional public policy indicator of housing affordability in the United States is the percent of income spent on housing. Housing expenditures that exceed 30 percent of household income have historically been viewed as an indicator of a housing affordability problem. Housing affordability diffi culties are not only part of the low income household spectrum. Among the factors contributing to high rents and income inequality are antiquated rules on construction, housing and land use and local opposition to housing density. The public sector, private sector, fi nancial institutions and citizens all have a role to play in increasing the supply and affordability of housing. REGIONAL ECONOMIC HEALTH AND COMPETITIVENESS To enhance regional economic health, there must be a positive and sustainable economic trajectory in the Washington, DC region. There is a need to strengthen employment opportunities, provide a high quality of life for current and future residents, seek new ways to boost competitiveness against other regions, and ensure that our local economy is resilient to change. DISRUPTION TRENDS AND TECHNOLOGIES Paradigm shifts in other industries are bringing disruption to real estate. From new ways of fi nancing development to shared space to smart buildings, innovation is shaping the way buildings are developed, managed, and used. Such trends as the Internet of Things, Big Data, Crowdfunding, and Virtual Reality are integral parts of real estate growth in the future. Examination of the impacts of these new technologies and trends is necessary to understand how they will impact the way that the industry carries out its business.

IMPACT SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES ULI Washington has a robust sponsorship program which has produced valuable support over many years for its mission and programs, with generous contributions from companies that support our general program of work and our major events. The district council completed in 2016 a new Strategic Plan, which projects orienting our work more directly going forward on "impact" trends and issues. To that end, we are focused on offering new sponsorship opportunities to support specific work elements, one important objective of which is to fund provide opportunities for engagement among those committed to those impact issues, but not in a position to pay the traditional fees associated with ULI Washington programs. An important corollary of this new emphasis will be the opportunity for organizations to associate themselves with, and where appropriate to contribute to the formulation of, initiatives of particular interest based on the respective organizations' priority commitments. This includes, but is not limited to: WOMEN S LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE Opportunities to fund charitable contributions, through ULI WLI, to enhance the visibility and leadership of women in real estate. This might include sponsorship of a SheBuilds home through Rebuilding Together, scholarships for women to attend ULI events, free leadership training opportunities for women. Range: $10,000 - $50,000 RESEARCH Opportunity to sponsor a research study of interest to members of the district council to add to the knowledge base of best practices in the region. Funds to implement research recommendations Range: $15,000 to $50,000 YOUNG LEADER S GROUP The Young Leaders support Community of Hope, a medical clinic in an underserved area of DC, through fundraising efforts at their annual Trivia Night. Sponsorship dollars could be used to expand the program to include an overnight retreat component, or other special activity for participants. Range: $25,000 to $50,000 SCHOLARSHIPS This opportunity could be used for Real Estate or Planning graduate program tuition or for ULI events such as the Fall meeting. Range: $1,000 and up COMPLIMENTARY MEMBERSHIPS For those who wish to belong to ULI and do not have the fi nancial means to join. This would be a need based award. UP4PO engages public offi cials in an interactive dialogue about private and public sector roles, complex tradeoffs, and economics that are at play in land use in communities across the country. Sponsorships will be used to support a public sector team to engage in the program. Range: $2,500 and up PRO BONO TAPS Technical Assistance Programs (TAP) provide expert advice to jurisdictions facing land use challenges. The cost of a TAP to a public sector or nonprofi t organization is $20,000.
