The Physician Assistant is responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and referral of patients as appropriate, under the supervision of a designated Attending Physician. Physician Assistants are also responsible for complying with all contractual obligations under the NYU School of Medicine Affiliation Contract with Bellevue Hospital Center and all other related duties as assigned. There are some night and weekend responsibilities. DUTIES: Direct Patient Care - average census per PA is about 8 patients. Cover a service of patients (many of whom have cardiac diagnoses); See and clinically evaluate all patients on the PA service for coverage issues; Take new admissions; Present all new admissions and challenging coverage issues with attending; Perform a full clinical evaluation on all new admissions within a few hours of admission Attend clinical rounds with attending on a daily basis Via Quadramed (our electronic medical record), writes all appropriate medication orders; Via Quadramed, orders all appropriate ancillary tests patients; Review all pertinent lab and test results; Perform all appropriate pre and post cardiac catheterization exams/studies as per Bellevue protocol; Communicate with referral providers; Complete all related duties as assigned. Documentation Write admission notes on new patients via MYSIS; Write event notes for coverage issues; Write discharge summaries on patients being discharged via MYSIS; Complete all discharge prescriptions; Complete sign-outs for new admissions and updates coverage sign-outs as needed.
