Minutes of the ASEAN Citation Index (ACI) Editor s Workshop in the Philippines 1 April 2016 At the Midas Hotel and Casino, Pasay City, Manila, the Philippines According to the minute of the 3 rd Steering Committee Meeting in Bangkok, the ACI Secretariat proposed and committed to run a workshop for editors in each member countries to create awareness of the importance of the ACI and also share the ACI journal selection criteria for better understanding among the ASEAN editors. The second ASEAN Citation Index (ACI) Editor s Workshop was scheduled to be held in the Philippines on Friday, 1st of April 2016 at the Midas Hotel and Casino, Pasay City, Manila. The Workshop was jointly funded by Commission on Higher Education of the Philippines, Thai-Journal Citation Index, and Office of Higher Education Commission of Thailand. There were 104 editors and universities representatives in the Philippines participated in the event. Regarding the speakers and facilitators from the TCI, there were 3 persons, namely, Prof Dr Narongrit Sombatsompop, Assoc Prof Teerasak Markpin, and Mr Santi Ittiritmechai. Juanillo Jr., Director IV, Office of Planning, Research and Knowledge Management, Commission on Higher Education, the Philippines delivered the opening remarks of the Workshop 2. ASEAN Citation Index (ACI): What, Why, How? Prof Dr Narongrit Sombatsompop, the Chairman of the ACI Steering Committee delivered Background and Rationale of the ACI, the development, the current status of the ACI, the administrative structure and the Steering Committee under the topic ASEAN Citation Index (ACI): What, Why, How?. The ACI Steering Committee comprises representatives nominated by the Ministry of Education or the related organisations from 10 member countries. The ACI has 159 journals titles. Of the 159, 94 were from Thailand, 25 from Malaysia, 18 from Indonesia, 20 from the Philippines, and 2 from Vietnam. 3. Workshop on Journal Evaluation for possible inclusion in the ACI and Scopus In the workshop, Prof.Dr. Narongrit Sombatsompop divided the participants into 10 groups for practicing evaluating 10 sampling Filippino academic journals into the ACI. After that, the evaluation results from each table would be compared with those evaluated by the ACI team for learning, sharing and discussing the evaluation process among the participants and the ACI team. The results suggested that, there were 4 out of 10 sampling journals had high potential to be indexed in the ACI database.
3 4. Closing Dr. Napoleon K. Juanillo Jr., the ACI Steering Committee of the Phillippines expressed his sincere thanks to Prof Dr Narongrit Sombatsompop and the TCI team for jointly organizing this workshop. He stated that the Fillippino Editors had learned a lot regarding the ACI journal selection criteria and the evaluation process which would benefit the improving of the journal quality in the Philippines in the future.
