It has become a tradition in the Church to bless candles on this day. You are invited to bring candles from home for a blessing which will be given during the introductory Rites of Mass. We will also bless the many different type of candles that we use in the celebration of the liturgies at St. Aloysius. There will be NO 5:30 p.m. Mass This Sunday, Super Bowl Sunday. Feast of the Presentation of the Lord

Is God Calling You to Live More Generously? Generosity is at the heart of the Christian life, just as it is at the heart of the Gospel. For it is often through our generosity that we are able to bring the love of God to life for others in very real and tangible ways. God is by his very nature generous. God wants to convince us of his generosity, and in turn wants us to live generous lives. PURSUING A DYNAMIC FAITH LIFE THROUGH STEWARDSHIP: Generosity as a path to happiness In his book, The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic, Matthew Kelly states that the happiest people he knows are the most generous people he knows. We are all called through the scriptures to be a generous and giving people. We are called to give generously of our time, talent and treasure. We recognize giving as a means to grow closer with God. Stewardship is transformative. Once truly embraced, stewardship changes the way we look at everything in our lives. Stewardship becomes a total way of life. We find that we give generously out of our deep love for God and we find great joy in that giving. Over the next few weeks, we particularly ask you to prayerfully reflect upon your Stewardship of Offering. During each mass on February 15 and 16, you will hear from fellow parishioners reflecting on how stewardship of offering and being generous enhances their spiritual lives and makes them happy. Then on February 22 and 23, you will be asked for your commitment to our 2014 Stewardship of Offering Campaign. In addition, we will be reflecting on Chapter Four Generosity of Matthew Kelly s book on Wednesday, February 5 and again on Sunday, February 9 in the Media Center. Be Dynamic, Be Generous. Liturgical Music Leader Needed for 5:30 p.m. Sunday Mass After many years of service, Amber Guillot will step down as leader of the music ministry at 5:30 p.m. mass to devote more time to her family. Amber will continue to serve St. Aloysius as a cantor for parish liturgies. We thank Amber and Grant Guillot, for their dedication and commitment to providing music at 5:30 mass. We also want to thank Bret Jackson (percussionist) and Pat Jenkins (guitarist) who are also leaving to serve in the music ministry in other parishes. Leah Balhoff (pianist) will continue to play for the 5:30 Mass. St. Aloysius Church is now accepting applications for a new leader of the 5:30 Mass Music Ministry. Responsibilities include the planning of liturgical music for Mass, the coordination and rehearsal of other musicians in the group, as well as, facilitating the active participation of the assembly in the music at 5:30 Mass. Previous experience as a pastoral musician in the Catholic Church is required. Professional training as a singer and cantor is required. Please remember the following: Wash your hands often with soap and water, or hand sanitizer. If you are not feeling well and you are exhibiting signs of illness (fever, chills, etc.), please stay home. The Church excuses the faithful from the obligation to attend mass on Sunday and Holydays when they are sick. If you have signs of the flu, please refrain from receiving the Precious Blood from the cup or receiving the Blessed Sacrament on the tongue. When you are sick, minimize physical touch with others. Shaking hands is not the only way to offer the sign of peace. If you have been ill, you may simply say the words: The peace of Christ be with you, along with a smile and a nod your head. St. Aloysius Mardi Gras Ministry Is inviting all parishioners to a Southdowns Parade Viewing Party Friday, February 28th 6:30 10:00 p.m. Child Care Center Parking Lot Watch for More Details! Ushers needed at all weekend Masses Do you have a cheerful heart and a warm smile? Please consider serving as an usher at the weekend mass you attend. The women and men who serve as ushers are much more than collection takers and distributors of bulletins; they are representatives of a caring community. Ushers welcome parishioners and visitors as they arrive for worship and help them feel comfortable in our Church. Generally, the time commitment is 1½ hours a weekend. Ministry Highlights -Funeral Ministry St. Aloysius Church has several ministries which assist parishioners in the preparation and celebration of Funerals. At the time of the death of loved one, a parishioner desiring a funeral at St. Aloysius Church should call the Church Office (343-6657) to schedule a funeral. After office hours and on weekends, please call the Church Office, the answering service will provide an emergency number so that parishioners may contact the priest on call to schedule a funeral. Once a Priest or Deacon has been scheduled to preside at the funeral, the Director of Music and Liturgy will contact family members to assist in the planning of the funeral liturgy, including the selection of readings, music and liturgical ministers. (The Liturgy Director is also available to assist in pre-planning funeral liturgies for parishioners.) A Member of the Bereavement Committee will also call the family, to offer some food and other assistance to families celebrating funerals in the parish. On the day of the Funeral, a Funeral Liturgy Coordinator will set up for the funeral mass or service. This person provides hospitality to the family and helps to set up their personal mementoes, flowers and other remembrances. They also prepare the vessels, the scripture readings and other items needed for the Mass. Funeral Coordinators assist the family s Readers, Servers and Eucharistic Ministers to prepare for the funeral liturgy. More Volunteers are needed to participate in the Funeral Coordinator s Ministry. The parish also has a Resurrection Choir and Cantors who will provide music and assist the assembly in singing the funeral liturgy. Resurrection Choir Members need to be available during the week for a brief rehearsal and the funeral mass. Those who join this choir are added to an e-mail and a call list, so that they may be notified of a funeral. Members attend funerals as their schedules allow. This important ministry encourages a spirit of prayer, comfort and celebration for all who participate in funerals at St. Aloysius. New musicians are invited to join the Resurrection Choir. Finally, the newest funeral ministry is the Memorial Cross Ministry. A wooden cross, inscribed with the name of each person buried from St. Aloysius Church will be prepared. So that we may remember those who have died, the crosses are hung in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel behind the Sanctuary. A few more volunteers are needed to help craft and to write the deceased s names on the crosses. For more information or to volunteer to serve in any of the Funeral Ministries, please contact Ken Thevenet at kthevenet@staloysiusparish.com or call 343-6657, ext. 3030.
