Title of Position Schools Coordinator Aboriginal Schools Program Classification ASO5 Occupant: Job Specification Key Purpose of the role: The Schools Coordinator Aboriginal Schools Program increases the capacity of school staff and school communities in Aboriginal and Anangu schools in rural, remote and metropolitan areas, to promote and improve the sexual health knowledge, wellbeing and safety of school students. This is achieved through the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Aboriginal Schools program and best practice approaches to respectful relationships and sexual health education and ensuring the curriculum supports the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum. Direct Reports Not applicable Key Relationships/Interactions: Internal External Member of the Workforce Education and Development Division Accountable to the Team Leader: Schools Education and Support Participates as a member of the Schools Education and Support Team and works in partnership with the Team Leader and other Schools Coordinators Collaborates and works in partnership with the Aboriginal Programs Coordinator and Coordinators: Aboriginal Education Coordinator in the Clinical and Community Education Team Collaborates with the Business Support Officer Yarning on programs Supports the Project Officer:Safe Schools Coalition SA and other program teams when needed Works in partnership with all SHine SA staff Collaborates with personnel from the Department for Education and Child Development, especially the Aboriginal Education Unit, Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Education Committee and other key Aboriginal health and education stakeholders. Consult with key Aboriginal Education, health services, and school communities to review/develop, facilitate and evaluate professional development courses for staff from Aboriginal and Anangu Schools, and those schools with high Aboriginal student enrolment. Frequent travel to rural and remote communities to provide ongoing support to school staff such as professional development, curriculum and resources Develop and evaluate culturally appropriate curricula and resources for Aboriginal students from primary, secondary and disability sectors in collaboration with the Schools Community Coordinator: Aboriginal Schools Program, Team Leader: Schools Education and Support, and other Schools Coordinators Provide support to Anangu Education Workers (AEW), Aboriginal Community Education Officers (ACEO), Aboriginal Secondary Education Transition Officers (ASETO) in collaboration with the Schools Community Coordinator: Aboriginal Schools Provide professional development and support to SA Aboriginal Sports Training Academy (SAASTA) staff to deliver comprehensive R&SH program Provide a consultancy service to schools and SHine SA programs that work with young Aboriginal people at risk to assist them to provide appropriate education and support around respectful relationships and sexual health issues Collaborate with the Team Leader and other Schools Coordinators to deliver the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum Professional learning program to staff from Aboriginal and Anangu Schools, and those schools with high Aboriginal student enrolment. Take the lead on facilitating culturally appropriate professional development to teachers in Aboriginal and Anangu schools and schools with a high enrolment of Aboriginal students Participate and contribute to the annual review and development of teacher training programs, curricula and resource development. Communicate regularly with identified schools, at least one face-to-face meeting. Organise and facilitate professional development sessions for teachers Actively contribute to the development of new resources and services to support Aboriginal young people. Person Specification Selection Criteria: Essential Minimum Requirements Educational/Vocational Qualifications A tertiary qualification in Education. Registered or able to register with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia. Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills An ability to: work collaboratively with Department for Education and Child Development personnel, principals, teachers, students and school communities plan, implement and evaluate professional education courses for School staff working in Aboriginal and Anangu Schools and those schools with a high enrolment of Aboriginal Students. travel to rural and remote Aboriginal communities demonstrate values and attitudes that celebrate sexual diversity and gender diversity which are consistent with SHine SA s Strategic Directions and policy. apply a range of effective communication skills work effectively as a member of a team demonstrate computer literacy skills.
