The vision of the Open & Agile Smart Cities initiative is to create an open smart city market based on the needs of cities and communities. Martin Brynskov, research director of Smart Cities at Aarhus University: OASC is a focused response to the digital urban transition, which is one of the key challenges of the world right now and in the foreseeable future. While IoTand Smart Cities and Communities may offer new possibilities, it also introduces new risks, of vendor lock-in, failed investments, security breaches, social inequality, and global forces disrupting local economic development and well-being. With OASC, cities and the partners around them can shape a robust, common market based on simple mechanisms. Jarmo Eskelinen, CITO Future Cities Catapult: Cities are facing many challenges today and OASC is one piece of the puzzle in solving some of the challenges the digital transition brings with it. The foundation of Open & Agile Smart Cities empowers cities to shape open standards of tomorrow and create new market possibilities thanks to interoperability of systems. Harri Airaksinen, CEO of Business Tampere: As a new complementary network of citiesoasc is a great opportunity to all cities and urban regions to share experiences, deliver the best practices and enlarge the markets for the companies offering smart solutions and innovative services. OASC will certainly become an excellent instrument in order to improve the quality of living in cities, create new markets and scale up the business. Pieter Ballon, director of imec-smit: The idea behind OASC is to bring together different partners cities, citizens, research, and industry to make open innovation a reality and our cities more livable again.

Focus areas: Open data and interfaces The six cities open up their data stores to be utilised by the entire city community. This is done by developing joint operating models, publishing platforms and interfaces. Open participation and customership The Six City Strategy promotes the creation of service business opportunities and the accessibility and usability of services. Open innovation platforms The innovation platforms offer effective and functional services for agile trials, user-oriented joint development, and the controlled user testing of new innovations and technologies. All development work strives towards communality, openness and accessibility.

Tampere Innovation Area: Mobility Example Our vision is to provide a smooth, safe and sustainable transport system for citizens and share our environment and competences for future development We are developing our innovation area together with authorities, universities, companies and citizens which enables easy access to testing new innovations and solutions

Automated Bus Development as an Example Automated bus development was conducted in co-operation with Metropolia, City of Tampere, Tampere Technical University, Aalto University and Trafi Purpose of the project was to set up a bus line in order to research how users perceive the new service model, and where companies can test and develop products and services. Pilots conducted in 2016-2018

City Positioning for Future Development City positioning is a test site for companies and organizations where they can research, develop and pilot position-based services (also indoors) in an intensive urban environment The research project is a joint effort of HERE, Beemray, City of Tampere, Finnpark, Kesko, Tampere Hall, S Group and the University of Tampere The site contains Railway Station (a mobility hub) Parking hall(s) Congress Center Concert hall(s) Shopping & restaurants Tourist attractions University campus

Smart LED Lighting Test Area Purpose of the test area is to offer open ecosystem for our partners developing and piloting purposes Partners can validate their own sensor solutions to measure different environment elements and analyse results via common cloud Test areas will be expanded to cover new city regions based on City and partners pilots requirements

What Next?
