YOUNG ARTISTS BURSARY MENTORING PROGRAM 2015 CALL OUT FOR 3 X MENTORS SPRING FLING YOUNG ARTISTS PROGRAM Since 2012, Young Graduates who are connected to Dumfries & Galloway were awarded bursaries by Spring Fling. Thanks to the huge success of the programme over the past two years The Holywood Trust has continued to support the programme. Furthermore, support from The Archie Sutter Watt Trust has extended the programme to allow us to fund three young artist/mentor pairs for 2015. A bursary of 1000 is awarded to three young artists, to encourage the young artists to return to or remain working in this area. Spring Fling will offer a mentoring programme with an established practitioner, 1000 to fund the creation of new work, and funded and automatic entry into Spring Fling 23 25 May 2015. We are looking for 3 Mentors from Spring Fling Membership to join the programme this year. MENTORING A SPRING FLING YOUNG ARTIST As an established artist or craft-maker, you have a wealth of creative and business experience to inspire an up and coming young artist. In order to encourage young artists to work in Dumfries and Galloway, Spring Fling will match Mentors up with Young Artists to complete a 13 day mentoring programme in the run up to Spring Fling 2015. As a Mentor, you will put together a plan with your Young Artist after an initial meeting in November / December 2014. It is suggested you will support and advise your Young Artist in the following ways. This list is not exhaustive and these are
suggestions. Technical skills (if disciplines or past experiences of Young Artist and Mentor match) Display & presentation of work Dealing with customers Interacting with visitors during Spring Fling Marketing your work in the run up to Spring Fling (or any event/exhibition) Business advice: bookkeeping, invoicing etc Making applications (for funding, exhibitions, jobs etc) Networking and getting to know the local arts scene HOW TO APPLY As you are a member of Spring Fling it is acknowledged that you work professionally to high standards in both the creative and business aspects of your practice. If you would like to be considered as a Mentor please email Tonia on tonia@springfling.co.uk with a statement, no longer than two sides of A4, explaining what you could offer a young artist, and what experiences you have that would make you a good mentor by Friday 14 November 2014. We have also included a PDF with images and details on the three selected Young Artists for 2015. A general statement on why you think you would be a good mentor is most helpful however if a particular Young Artist jumps out at you please tell us so. Remember that straight discipline matches are not always possible or most appropriate so don t be put off if there is not a direct match for your discipline. FEE & EXPECTATIONS You will be paid 150 per day for thirteen days of mentoring (one day = seven hours). Thirteen days mentoring should be completed between 1 December 2014 and 30 June 2015, at least ten of which must be completed before Spring Fling. These days are to be agreed between Mentor and Young Artist. On completion of thirteen days mentoring, and after Spring Fling 2015, you
will be paid the full fee of 1950. 300 will be available to cover travel expenses incurred as part of the mentoring project.
