2013 Dear Perianesthesia Colleagues, One of the greatest challenges of s Education Provider Committee is to provide classes that are current, non-repetitive and one step ahead of our everyday practice. By building our programs on a solid foundation and looking toward future possibilities of presenting online Winter/Spring S e m i n a r s General Information American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses () is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Yet, a need exists for many of our valued members and colleagues to have face-to-face interaction with a speaker and others attending a live seminar. There is value to personal interaction, dialoguing with other attendees and sharing common workplace dilemmas. Because perianesthesia nurses are as unique as our work environments, continually updating our knowledge and skills is imperative to maintain the quality of care our patients and their families not only require, but also so richly deserve. Perianesthesia nurses must know a lot about some things and something about a lot of things. Only through continually renewing and expanding our knowledge base is this reality possible. Achieving this goal depends on having the most current information available when we seek out learning and growth opportunities. Seminars offer current topics for all nurses practicing in any area where preanesthesia, preoperative, postanesthesia, pain management and post-sedation care are delivered. Current trends in safety, advocacy, legal implications, standards and practice recommendations, education, clinical practice and research are addressed. As we head into the holiday season this year, I encourage you to give yourself the gift of educational opportunity. Learn from not only the instructor presenting your seminar, but also from your colleagues in attendance. Talk with each other, seek clarity, and challenge each other s perspectives. Perhaps Oliver Wendell Holmes had it right when he said, Man s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions. 1 Current programs selected for this season include: Foundations of Perianesthesia Practice Pediatrics: Beyond the Basics Pediatrics: Little Bodies, Big Differences Perianesthesia Certification Review Perianesthesia Pathophysiology and Assessment: A Systems Approach Safety Begins With Us Refreshing Your Perianesthesia Practice Surrounding Your Practice With Excellence: Legalities, Standards and Advocacy Regardless of how long you have been engaged in the art and science of perianesthesia nursing, has a wide spectrum of seminars that are designed specifically with your needs in mind.
