Pella, IA Synopsis Mid America Youth Basketball (MAYB) is again coming to South Central Iowa. The Oskaloosa Youth Basketball Association has signed a contract commitment with MAYB to host a tournament on June 30-July 2 nd, 2006. The tournament will take place at Central College located in Pella, Iowa. A total of 80-100 boys and girls teams from grades 4th-12th are expected to compete. The tournament will officially be named the South Central Iowa MAYB Classic. All games will take place at the Kuyper Field House and Gymnasium at Central College in Pella, Iowa. Central's Kuyper Athletic Complex is one of the top collegiate facilities in the region. It's been chosen to host more NCAA championship events in more sports than any other Iowa college. Kuyper Fieldhouse was built in 1987 and expanded in 1999. The fieldhouse features 5 basketball courts that are surrounded by a 200-meter indoor track. Kuyper Gymnasium was constructed in 1970. A new wooden competition floor was installed in 1997 and has been the site of numerous NCAA championship events, including the NCAA Div. III women's basketball Final Four in 1993 and the volleyball Final Four in 2000. Kuyper Gymnasium will be divided to host two basketball courts during the MAYB competition. All courts in Kuyper Fieldhouse and Kuyper Gymnasium are equipped with their own scoreboards. For more information about the facilities to be used, click on the following website: http://www.central.edu/athletics/facilities.html The Pella and Oskaloosa communities both offer recreational, shopping and cultural experiences. Pella is the home of Lake Red Rock, Iowa s largest lake. Boating, camping, fishing, biking and hiking opportunities are readily available at Lake Red Rock. The downtown area of Pella is known as one of Iowa s premier retail shopping areas. To learn more about Pella and its community, visit http://www.positivelypella.com/ or http://www.pella.org/. Oskaloosa is also a unique community of south central Iowa. More information about the city of Oskaloosa can be found at http://www.oskaloosaiowa.org/. Mid America Youth Basketball administers tournaments throughout the central states region. In 2005 over 4000 teams from throughout the United States participated in MAYB tournaments. The MAYB format offers the opportunity to play an organized 25-30 game season during the summer months without the need to qualify from one week to the next. The tournament s 5 game guarantee provides teams with maximum court time for their money. The goal is that all players who are serious about improving their skills have the chance to do so. MAYB is the most cost-effective way to improve individual and team basketball skills in a competitive setting. For more information about MAYB, see their web site at http://www.mayb.com/index1.shtml. For more information on how to enter the South Central Iowa MAYB Classic, contact the MAYB office at 316-284-0354 or e-mail mayb@mayb.com Lodging For lodging information click http://www.mayb.com/cgi-bin/lodgingsummer.cgi.
