BRCC LPN-RN NURSING CLINICAL COMPONENT APPLICATION PACKET Admission to the clinical portion of the Nursing Program will be selective and competitive. Applicants are advised that prior registration in BRCC general education courses for nursing does not imply acceptance into the clinical nursing component. Because the enrollment in the clinical component will be limited, there may not be space to admit all qualified applicants who apply. The primary criteria for competitive selection into the clinical nursing component includes, but will not be limited to, academic performance as determined by cumulative grade point average in required general education courses, and references. Admission preference will be given to residents of the Counties of Augusta, Rockingham, Highland & and the cities of Staunton, Harrisonburg, and Waynesboro. In order to be considered as a resident of the BRCC service region, applicants to the BRCC nursing program must have resided continuously in the service region for the 12 months preceding the clinical application deadline and must not be residents of the service region for the primary purpose of education. Completion of a medical evaluation form will be required prior to entry into clinical courses, but not prior to the meeting of the Admissions Committee. The Physical Form, CPR, Malpractice Insurance and Health Insurance should be turned into the Nursing Department in Suite J131B by 3:00 p.m. December 7 th, 2018. You will not be allowed to attend class in January if your Physical Form has not been turned in on time. A criminal background check and urine drug screen will be required prior to admission to the program. Upon acceptance, you will be receiving information on this and it is to be completed by December 7 th, 2018. KAPLAN payment fee due at the BRCC bookstore by January 18, 2019. Be sure that all reference forms sent include your EMPLID. 2. If you have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor, this could prevent you from taking the licensing exam and should be discussed with the State Board of Nursing prior to beginning the nursing courses. Transportation: You are responsible for your own transportation to and from BRCC and to all clinical facilities. LPN-RN NURSING CLINICAL COMPONENT ADMISSIONS PROCESS 1. The applicant must meet minimum program admissions requirements: a. Must hold a current, unrestricted LPN license in the state of Virginia and be a graduate of an approved LPN program.
b. Complete the general education requirements for nurses with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and a minimum grade of "C" in all courses. c. Be a high school graduate or equivalent, including the following courses; Biology with a lab course (one year with high school or one semester college BIO 101 at BRCC), Chemistry with a lab course (one year high school or Chemistry 101), but Chemistry 111 is highly recommended to transfer to a 4 year school. Complete (MTE Modules 1-5 at BRCC) with minimum grade of "C". The exception to this is successful completion of a college-level math of 151 or above with a grade of C or better. d. Complete the BRCC placement testing process in math, reading, and writing, and place at college level or satisfactorily complete any needed developmental coursework. e. Nursing entrance exam scores (Kaplan) Test scores of at least 45% in Reading, Math, English, Critical Thinking, and Science. (To be competitive), should have scores in the 80 s or 90 s. 2. The applicant's nursing and admission files must be complete by the application deadlines. Nursing clinical applicants are responsible for insuring that materials have been received in the BRCC Nursing Department and the Admissions and Records Office. Files that are not complete by the deadline will not be considered by the Nursing Selection Committee.
