APPLICATION DEADLINE MARCH 1, 2018 AT 5:00 P.M. The following scholarships are offered by the Shelton State Community College (SSCC) Foundation to students who will be enrolled at Shelton State for the upcoming academic year. Application forms are available in Student Services (first floor), the Foundation s office (room 2264), the main office of the Fredd Campus, or online at sheltonstate.edu. ONE COPY of the completed scholarship application packet (application form, essay, and required documents) must be submitted FOR EACH SCHOLARSHIP for which you are applying. Only ONE SEALED OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT should be submitted. The transcript should be from your current or most recently attended educational institution (high school, Shelton State, or another college or university). TO BE CONSIDERED: Application packets must be complete. Late and/or incomplete packets will not be considered. All applicants will be notified by mail upon completion of review. A.H. BEAN ENDOWED ADULT EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student enrolling full-time who is 25 years old or older. It may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (Four $4,000 scholarships) ABRASLEY-SHELTON ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a second year student enrolled in the A.D.N. program with priority given to a married student with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. The award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or programrequired ALABAMA ONE CREDIT UNION CHARTER MEMBERS SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a member of the Alabama One Credit Union. The applicants must include proof of membership obtained from the Alabama One Credit Union. The applicants must enroll as full-time students and maintain a 3.0 GPA. The award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (Two $1,500 scholarships) ALABAMA ONE CREDIT UNION VOLUNTEERS SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a member of the Alabama One Credit Union. The applicants must include proof of membership obtained from the Alabama One Credit Union. The applicants must enroll as full-time students and maintain a 3.0 GPA. ALEXANDER ADULT LEARNING SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a full-time student 35 years old or older. The award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required ALLEN LAYSON ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student from West Alabama and selected giving priority to applicants from Pickens County. A statement of financial need must be included in the essay. The applicants must have and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above. The award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. ANDY POTTS ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Priority is given to a graduate/graduating senior of Berry High School. The award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (One $1,000 scholarship) B.A.P. SERVICES, INC. WELDING SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a current welding student at Shelton State Community College continuing his or her welding education and requiring financial assistance. A written recommendation from the student s welding instructor is required. The award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. B.F. GOODRICH SCHOLARSHIP [NEW] This award is for an employee or dependent of an employee of B.F. Goodrich. The applicants must include a letter verifying employment. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. BANK OF MOUNDVILLE SCHOLARSHIP [NEW] This award is for an employee or dependent of an employee of the Bank of Moundville. The applicants must include a letter verifying employment. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required BBVA COMPASS BANK SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student enrolling in a business or business-related program. Priority will be given to BBVA Compass Bank employees and their families. The applicants must include a letter indicating Compass Bank employment. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. Award shall be split between the fall and spring semesters. (One $600 scholarship) BERNICE BUTLER ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student from West Alabama. The applicants must enroll as full-time students and maintain a 3.0 GPA. The applicant must have documented participation in community service, civic organizations, and/or church activities. The applicants must provide a signed letter summarizing participation. The award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (Two $1,000 scholarships) BILLIE SUE BROWN MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP This award is for an outstanding freshman or sophomore student interested in pursuing a career in music education or performance. The student must receive a recommendation from the music faculty committee based on the student s performance at the SSCC Fine Arts auditions. Sophomores performance can be based on their fall semester jury, musicale, or NATS performance. Contact the SSCC Music Department for information regarding the Fine Arts audition. Student must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA. The scholarship may be renewed based on the recommendation of the music faculty committee. The award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (One $4,000 scholarship distributed as $2,000 in the fall and spring semesters) C. JULIUS PAYNE SCHOLARSHIP [NEW] For a second year student enrolled in the Diesel Mechanic program. The student must be a graduate of Bibb County High School. The student must have and maintain at least a 2.8 grade point average. A statement of financial need must be included in the application essay. The award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books or program-required supplies. (One $250 scholarship)

C.A. AND HATTIE B. FREDD ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student who has or will graduate from Green, Hale, Pickens, Sumter, or Tuscaloosa County high school. The student may be enrolled at SSCC already. The student must have and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA. The student must be and remain in good citizenship standing with the school he or she is attending and must have no current or prior citation for violating any school policies and/or codes relating to conduct or discipline. The student must submit a letter from the school he or she is currently attending that indicates good citizenship standing. The student must be enrolled full-time at SSCC during the time that the award will be used. Priority will be given to a student enrolling in a technical program. Scholarship and leadership will also be considered. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (One $1,000 scholarship) CARLA MATHEWS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a Tuscaloosa County High School graduating senior planning to enter nursing studies. The student must be enrolling full-time. Selection is based on grades, merit, and financial need. The student must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required CHAMPION SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student enrolled full-time during the time of the award in the MTT or CNC programs with a demonstrated need for financial assistance. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or programrequired supplies. (One $1,000 scholarship) CHARLES W. DENNIS ENDOWED MEMORIAL PERFORMING ARTS SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a full-time student seeking a career in technical theatre or a related field. The student must receive a recommendation from his or her high school or college addressing relevant experience, abilities, and aspirations in technical theatre or a related field. The student must have and maintain a B average. Potential candidates must have an in-person interview with staff members of Theatre Tuscaloosa to review relevant experience. Contact Theatre Tuscaloosa for information regarding the interview. The recipient will be required to work sixteen (16) hours per week in the scene shop and as a crew member on at least one Theatre Tuscaloosa or Shelton State theatrical production each fall and spring semester while on scholarship. Award is open to graduating high school students, students already enrolled at Shelton State, or college students transferring to Shelton State. Priority will be given to previous awardees of the scholarship. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (One $5,000 scholarship) CLENY RENFROE ENDOWED NURSING SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a full-time nursing student. Student must have and maintain at least a 3.5 GPA. A statement of financial need must be included in the application essay. The student must receive NO federal government assistance and NO federally sponsored student loans. A written recommendation from the student s nursing instructor is required. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (One $13,500 scholarship distributed among five semesters to complete the RN Program) CLYDE PRICE ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student enrolling full-time at Shelton State Community College during the time the award will be used. The student must have and maintain a 3.0 or above GPA. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required COACH GENE STALLINGS ENDOWED LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student pursuing any course of study at SSCC. The student must show academic promise and leadership potential with high integrity and good work ethic. Priority will be given to a student planning to attend the University of Alabama. Award may be applied toward, tuition, fees, books, or program-required DCH HEALTH SYSTEM HEALTHCARE SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student enrolled in the Shelton State Respiratory Therapy or RN program. The applicant must be a current DCH Health System employee. Proof of employment is required. Award may be applied toward, tuition, fees, books, or program-required DR. AND MRS. JOHN N. TODD III ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student enrolling full-time. The applicant must demonstrate financial need and community involvement. The applicant must have and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. The award will be split between the fall and spring semesters. (One $1,200 scholarship distributed as $600 per semester)

DR. CORDELL AND MARIE WYNN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student enrolling full-time. Selection is based on grades and financial need. The student must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (Two $1,000 scholarships) DR. J. REVIS HALL EDUCATOR SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student enrolling full-time. Student must have a parent who is a teacher in a public K-12 school in Alabama. Proof of employment is required. A statement of financial need must be included in the application essay. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (One $250 scholarship) DRS. RANDALL AND MICHELE JARRELL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a full-time, first-generation college student. The student must have and maintain a B average. A statement of financial need must be included in the application essay. The applicant must be from the Shelton State service area. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (One $4,000 scholarship to be split between the fall and spring semesters) EASTMEN RESINS, INC. ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a full-time student from Hale County. Priority is given to graduating seniors from high schools located in Hale County. The applicants must have an overall 3.0 or above GPA for their senior year of high school. The student must maintain a 3.0 GPA. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or programrequired supplies. (One $1,000 scholarship) EDWIN AND CECELIA ASHTON ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a LPN pursuing a RN degree, with priority given to a student employed in a Tuscaloosa County nursing home as a LPN. The student must be enrolling full-time at SSCC. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (Two $1,800 scholarships) ERIN MARIA MALONE ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student enrolling at least half-time in a technical, occupational, or academic program. Priority will be given to a recent graduate of the GED programs of West Alabama. The student must include dated documentation of the GED. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books or program-required supplies. EUGENE AND ELAINE JARRELL ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student who is 30 years old or older. The applicant must be from the Shelton State service area. A statement of financial need must be included in the application essay. The student must have and maintain a B average or above. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (One $4,000 scholarship to be split between the fall and spring semesters) FANG PHYSICS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a current Shelton State student studying science with a preference for physics. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required GINA MIERS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student enrolling full-time. The student must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA or above and demonstrate financial need. The student must be and remain in good citizenship standing with the school he or she attends. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (One $500 scholarship) GORDON AND ANN ROSEN ENDOWED NURSING SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student enrolled in the nursing program. The applicant must include evidence of acceptance to the LPN or RN programs and must have and maintain an overall 3.0 or above GPA. A statement of financial need must be included in the application essay. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or programrequired HALL-TAYLOR CONSTRUCTION COMPANY SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a graduating senior at Hillcrest High School enrolling full-time at SSCC. The award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. The award will be split between the fall and spring semesters. (One $2,700 scholarship distributed as $1,350 per semester)

HAROLD JAMES ENDOWED TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student enrolling in one of SSCC s technical programs. The applicant must show financial need along with interest in a vocational technical program. The student must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books or program-required HAZEL HANNAH MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP [NEW] This award is for a student currently enrolled in the SSCC Nursing Program who has completed at least one semester of clinical coursework and who demonstrates inherent compassion, dedication, and respect for the dignity of older adults. A letter of recommendation from a nursing faculty member(s) is required. Selection is to be based on nursing faculty observation and evaluation of student performance in the clinical setting, specifically related to the student s ability to provide compassionate care to individuals among the older adult population. Priority will be given to a student/nurse graduate who has worked at Forest Manor Nursing Home. The applicant must provide proof of employment. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required HELEN H. AND JOHN K. MCKINLEY ENDOWED CULINARY ARTS-HOSPITALITY SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student who has successfully completed at least one semester in Culinary Arts at Shelton State Community College and is pursuing a degree in the Culinary Arts program. The applicant must include a letter of recommendation from a SSCC Culinary Arts program instructor. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (One $1,000 scholarship) HELEN H. MCKINLEY EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR PRACTICAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a full-time student who has completed at least one semester at Shelton State Community College. The applicant must include evidence of acceptance to the Practical Nursing Program and must have and maintain an overall 3.0 or above GPA. The award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or programrequired supplies. (Two $1,000 scholarships) JamisonMoneyFarmer PC SCHOLARSHIP This award is for an employee or dependent of an employee of JamisonMoneyFarmer. The applicant must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA. The applicant must have a letter from the company verifying employment. The award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. The award will be split between fall and spring semesters. (One $800 scholarship to be distributed as $400 per semester) JOHN AND ANNE GLANKLER ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student who is 30 years old or older. The applicant must be from the Shelton State service area. A statement of financial need must be included in the application essay. The student must have and maintain a B average or above. (One $4,000 scholarship to be split between the fall and spring semesters) JONES HEATING, A/C, PLUMBING AND ELECTRICAL, INC. SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a graduate of Brookwood High School enrolling in a technical field of study. A statement of financial need must be included in the application essay. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required JOY PEARSON DENDY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a full-time student in the SSCC Fine Arts program. Priority will be given to a student majoring in music. The student must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (One $1,000 scholarship) JOYCE KELLEY ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a full-time student with a 3.0 or better GPA and a demonstrated financial need. The student must document a high level of integrity supported by two letters of character reference. The student must document active church participation supported by two letters of recommendation from church officials. The student must maintain 3.0 GPA. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required KAREEM MCNEAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM This award is for a physically challenged student enrolling at least half-time. The applicant must have and maintain a 3.0 or above GPA. Documentation of a physical challenge must be provided. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (One $1,000 scholarship)

KATHY S. BROWN ENDOWED MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student currently enrolled in the nursing program with priority given to a student pursuing a degree in neonatal or pediatric field. The student must show proof of acceptance in the nursing program. The student must have and maintain a 2.5 GPA. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or programrequired supplies. (One $2,000 scholarship to be split between the fall and spring semesters) KERRY WELBORN BOOK SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student enrolling full-time. The student must be a graduating senior from Hillcrest High School. The applicants with a 2.0 GPA or better during their senior year and a demonstrated financial need will be given priority. Award may be applied toward books or program-required LIB TYLER NURSING SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a full-time second year nursing student. The applicant must have and maintain a C+ average. The student must have a letter of recommendation from head of nursing or nursing faculty. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required MADEL PEARSON AND JOY DENDY TUSCALOOSA MUSIC CLUB SCHOLARSHIP This award is for an outstanding freshman or sophomore interested in pursuing a career in music education or performance. The student must receive a recommendation from the music faculty committee based on the student s performance in fall semester jury, NATS preview concert performance, or audition for a SSCC Performing Arts Scholarship. Contact the SSCC Music Department for further information. The recipient will be required (if invited) to perform at the Tuscaloosa Music Club s spring meeting. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or program-required supplies. (One $300 scholarship) McABEE CONSTRUCTION GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a student enrolling at SSCC. BOTELER ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a full-time student enrolled in the LPN program. The student must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Award may be applied toward tuition, fees, or books. (One $1,000 scholarship) WEST ALABAMA HEALTH COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP 1. This award is for a student currently enrolled in a health professions degree program at Shelton State Community College or an applicant to one of the degree programs who has been accepted for the upcoming term. Students in the Medical Transcription course of study are not eligible for this scholarship. Priority will be given to applicants obtaining an education enabling them to return to the workforce or students who are also parents pursuing a degree to better provide for their family. 2. An applicant must be a resident of one of the following counties at the time of application: Bibb, Hale, Fayette, Greene, Lamar, Marengo, Pickens, Sumter, or Tuscaloosa counties. Proof of residency must accompany the application, and such proof may be a current driver s license or other comparable documentation.

3. An applicant must submit a written statement of at least three (3) full paragraphs in length. The essay must detail how the scholarship would positively affect the applicant s ability to pursue his or her degree of choice. Priority will be given to applicants illustrating how this scholarship will help pay for an education they could not otherwise afford or how it will ease their financial burden or the financial burden of their family. The applicants should be able to identify their career goals and indicate whether they plan to remain in the West Alabama area following degree completion. 4. An applicant must submit transcripts and all documentation required by Shelton State. A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required or the equivalent academic standing based on the applicant s prior educational history. 5. An applicant must provide a recommendation from someone familiar with the applicant s career goals and commitment to the health profession. If a recent high school graduate, the applicant should provide a recommendation from a teacher or other advisor who has knowledge of the applicant s educational plans and dedication to enter a health-related profession. It is the desire of the West Alabama Health Council that students who receive this scholarship be committed actually to practice the profession in which they are studying, so the student can make a positive contribution to the health and well-being of the citizens of West Alabama. QUIMBY ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This award is for a full-time Electrical Technology or Industrial Electronics Technology student who has completed a minimum of thirty credit hours in the Electrical Technology program, Industrial Electronics Technology program, or a combination of these two programs (ELT/ILT courses) with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. A statement of financial need must be included in the application essay. A written recommendation from the ELT/ILT faculty committee is required.
