The Whenua Kura Scholarships The Whenua Kura initiative is a collaborative Ngāi Tahu workforce and education strategy to build Māori capability within the agricultural sector in Canterbury. In April 2013 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Lincoln University, Te Tapuae o Rehua and Ngāi Tahu Property Ltd towards the common purpose of supporting the growth of education and employment opportunities for Ngāi Tahu and local Māori in Canterbury. Guidelines for Applicants Important Dates Applications for the Whenua Kura Scholarships open on 1 October and close on the 30 November 2015. Eligibility To be eligible for a Whenua Kura Scholarship you must: Identify as Maori Be accepted into Lincoln University Be participating in whānau, hapū or iwi activities Be displaying leadership qualities Complete the application form and attach all relevant information and supporting documents Assessment Criteria The Whenua Kura selection panel will consider applications according to the following criteria: The overall quality of applications Applicants leadership qualities Applicants explanations of why they want to pursue a career in farming How well the applicant interviews Assessment Process Whenua Kura partners will convene to select scholarships by early December A short list will be made, interviews will commence by mid-december Applicants will be advised of the outcome by 24 December 2015 External/internal assessment panel decisions are final - no correspondence will be entered into
