Accordingly, he mentioned the general desire and need to strengthen AITAA-Pakistan Chapter and engaging its alumni in different projects and discussed different options. The other important issues that he brought forth and highlighted were the hosting of the 46 th AGM of AITAA in Pakistan in 2018and how the AITAA Pakistan Chapter could help AIT

rehabilitation. 3. Mr. Tahir Naeem, President, AITAA-Pakistan Chapter briefed the participants of meeting that over 850 alumni from Pakistan have graduated from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). He opined that as a community, the alumni may help AIT in many ways e.g. attracting better students for different academic programs being offered by AIT. He further stated that before AITAA-Pakistan Chapter took up an active role, it would have to register itself as a legal entity under the applicable laws of Pakistan. This would allow the entity to open a bank account, raise funding, craft programs and implement them on a sustainable basis. He further stated that, presently, some big companies were becoming research savvy. AITAA-Pakistan Chapter may link research and training requirements/ activities of these companies with AIT. AITAA-Pakistan Chapter may also act as a consulting arm and a think tank on different issues of present day emphasis. 4. Dr. S. M. Junaid Zaidi, Rector, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) emphasized that AITAA-Pakistan Chapter should launch different projects/ programs. These included arranging lectures/ talks by scholars/ practitioners/ researchers/ persons of eminence including eminent alumni at least once in a month. He further assured that CIIT would be willing to provide resources to AITAA-Pakistan Chapter like office space, furniture & fixtures, salary of an officer and 2 to 3 students (interns) to work for AITAA- Pakistan Chapter. 5. After some detailed deliberations and options discussed among the participants of the meeting on the working of AITAA-Pakistan Chapter, it was resolved that AITAA-Pakistan Chapter will be working across the country with a principal /central and several regional chapters. The regional chapters will be located one each in the respective capital cities of all four provinces of the country. The regional chapters will constitute components of the AITAA-Pakistan Chapter. 6. It was also resolved that the Secretariat of AITAA-Pakistan Chapter should be made functional to also host General Body Meeting of AIT Alumni Association in Pakistan in Year 2018. And the offer made by CIIT for providing office space and staff be acknowledged and accepted with gratitude. If need be, those working for AITAA-Pakistan Chapter may be given some honorarium depending on the resources available with the entity. It was also resolved that the website of AITAA-Pakistan Chapter may be created. The email, WhatsApp, twitter, face book type social networking be encouraged through use of the technologies on frequent basis to update alumni on a regular basis. 7. Different options were discussed to open bank account of AITAA-Pakistan Chapter. It was informed that it is not possible to open bank account without establishing a legal entity of AITAA-Pakistan Chapter. However, a joint bank account may be established as an interim arrangement with the incumbent and the immediate two former president(s) as account holders. 8. It was decided that Annual General Meeting (AGM) of AITAA-Pakistan Chapter may be organized preferably in the month of August 2016. It will be one day activity.
