White uncnutin@aol.com WEB MASTER Mark Grevera markgr@carolina.rr.com EDITOR Jim Sartin jimmie.sartin1@att.net A MESSAGE FROM OUR COMMANDANT WOW! I don't know how all you other Marines feel, but, MAN, this has been a "topsy-turvy" month! So much going on, in and outside the League. The "Past Commandant's By-Laws Committee" has tackled the re-writing of Detachment By-Laws to bring them in line with National & State. Quite a task, and I can't see that anyone else could be any better at that than Commandant Jim Simpson and his Team, which includes Southeast DVC Bill McLuskie and the current Trustees: Larry Sloop, Sr. Vice; Jim Stio, Jr. Vice; Howard Thacker, Judge Advocate, (Nice Job Howard!!!!), Current Past Commandant & Adjutant/Pay Master, Bruce Carter & yours truly. I believe Jim "and his other brother" Jim have taken it on themselves to do the actual "rewriting". It is a daunting task, but they're up for it, they say! Bruce Carter has, I believe, acquired half of ANOTHER state. Don't know if we'll EVER see Bruce again. Yes, he's THAT GOOD! Congrats Bruce (I think)! When Bruce is not available, for official meetings, I have agreed to keep "minutes" for our records. And let me tell ya, the IRS is getting tough on non-profits, especially "Military Non-Profits". And with our current Financial Officer/Pay Master Jim Stio, and Adjutant Bruce Carter, the FEDS will have nothing to complain about. Really nice work you two! Marines, elections are right around the corner. I hope you all are considering the available Marines in our Detachment whom you think will make Good Officers / Staff. Several have been nominated; some have agreed to do the job should they be elected; others are willing but need to be prodded or nominated. We have an unbelievable selection to choose from. So, talk to those whom you feel can do a good job and let's have some fun nominating and electing our Marines to the posts up for election. The GOLF TOURNAMENT is gathering steam; however, EVERYONE OF YOU MARINES should bring AT LEAST 1 SPONSOR to the table AND volunteer your time the day of the TOURNAMENT. You will have LOTS OF FUN!!!!, the Detachment will make some money for the COFFER, and our goals can be well on the way to being MET. This Saturday the Trustees will be voting on a donation for the Mecklenburg Young Marines and Tuesday, if the vote is positive, you will either approve or deny that donation request. My hope is the Trustees will keep their promise and vote to continue to support this worthwhile Organization, and that YOU will see to it that these young boys and girls will continue to be proud to call themselves MECKLENBURG YOUNG MARINES of MCL Detachment 750. Some of these young ones quite possibly may be our new replacements. Come to happy hour at 1800 (cake, ice cream, pie cookies & coffee & LOTS OF TALK & GATHERING). I hope you can make it to Jimmies' Restaurant on Saturday morning at 0900, then come sit in on the Staff meeting, see what happens and maybe pick up a few ideas, or even leave a few. Either way, see ya Tuesday at the VFW at 1900 for the monthly meeting. Semper Fidelis Andy King Commandant

Luke 9:6 Attention all Marines: Please provide updates concerning sickbay reports to Chaplain Richard Dick Mitchells at rmitch34@yahoo.com or telephone him at 330-533-3433. THE YOUNG MARINE PROGRAM Charlotte Detachment 750 is the proud sponsor and supporter of the MECKLEBURG COUNTY YOUNG MARINES. Detachment members are invited and are encourage to visit the Young Marines meetings at UNCC Charlotte Campus. MISSION: The Young Marines (YM) program is the drug demand reduction effort of the Marine Corp League and the United States Marine Corps. The official mission of the Young Marines is: To promote the mental, moral and physical development of its members. To instill in its members the ideals of honesty, fairness, courage, respect, dependability, attention to duty, love of God, country, and family. To stimulate an interest in and respect for, academic achievement and the history and traditions of the United States of America. Physical fitness requirements: To promote physical fitness through physical activities, including participation in athletic events and close order drill. To advocate a drug-free lifestyle. The Young Marines program is run in a military fashion using similar staff structure, courtesies, customs, and discipline as the US Marine Corps. The Marine Corps enlisted rank system is used in the program--young Marines wear the same uniform and enlisted rank insignia as members of the US Marines Corps, with the addition of Young Marine patches. Young Marines work toward ribbons for personal achievement similar to badges earned in other youth programs. They also work towards promotions in rank. Rank promotions require positive reports from the Young Marine s teachers and parents; mastering knowledge and skills outlined in the Young Marine guide book; and meeting.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU FROM BILL AND JANICE Bill and Janice wish to thank all of the special MARINES of Detachment 750 and their wonderful families for all of the kindness they showed us following Janice s accident. The meals were superb; the many offers to be of assistance were astonishing. We cherish each and every one of you! Semper Fi Bill & Janice On Feb. 15, Larry Sloop and Andy had the honor to attend the Eagle Scout Honor Council at Troop 704 in Harrisburg where Larry presented Eagle Scout Nick Jones with MCL GOOD CITIZENSHIP AWARD, and a Marine Corps Remembrance Coin. Congratulations to Eagle Nick Jones. Nick, the world is yours. Attack it with the same fervor you used the achieve EAGLE.
