NCCC FOUNDATION Scholarship Program Many scholarships have been established for North Country Community College students by generous donors who are passionate about education and helping others to achieve their goals in life. Each year, NCCC students benefit from the generous underwriting donated by these friends of the college and champions of education. NCCC Foundation awarded scholarships are intended to be used for educational needs other than tuition which can be covered through state and federal financial aid and/or grants. The NCCC Foundation makes a variety of scholarships available for full-time and part-time students based on academic performance, degree program and/or financial need. This NCCC Scholarship Booklet describes all the scholarships available for NCCC students for 2018-2019 academic year. Please read the descriptions for each scholarship carefully to determine individual eligibility based on the established criteria. Note the deadlines vary. Scholarship awards will be applied to your college expenditures in equal amounts each semester. Scholarship Applications are available online at http://www.nccc.edu/scholarship/ or from the Foundation Office. Good luck with all your educational endeavors. 1

ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP $500 Be a child, grandchild, or member of the immediate family of a North Country alumnus/a Be nominated by said alumnus/a Be a full-time (12 credits or more) freshman or sophomore Maintain a cumulative average of 3.0 to continue the scholarship award Agree to release name and photo for College and/or alumni-initiated publicity A complete scholarship application must include: A completed NCCC Foundation Scholarship Application Cover Page with this scholarship listed High school transcript with graduation date (academic average must be 85% or higher) or college GPA of 3.0 A resume (list all school/community activities, including offices held, awards received, etc.) and 2 letters of recommendation An essay from applicant describing his/her qualifications and relationship to the North Country alumnus/a A written statement by the nominating alumnus/a with his/her name, address, NCCC graduation date, telephone number, relationship to nominee and a few sentences about the nominee s qualifications 2

FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP $500 Be a returning full-time or part-time, second semester freshman or returning sophomore Have and maintain no less than a 2.75 cumulative GPA Describe financial need A complete scholarship application must include: A completed NCCC Foundation Scholarship Application Cover Page with this scholarship listed Paragraph which explains how you meet the criteria listed above Statement of your educational plans and your future goals 3

ASSOCIATION OF PROFESSIONALS SCHOLARSHIP $1000 One Award per NCCC Campus Be a returning full-time student Have a minimum GPA of 2.75 and be maintained to receive funding for the 2nd semester Indicate current college and/or community service State academic major List career goals Have a commitment to succeed academically at NCCC How to apply: Submit a typed two-page personal statement addressing the merit qualifications listed above and that answers the question of how the scholarship will benefit you Provide permission to the Scholarship Committee to access academic records Provide three NCCC faculty mentor/instructors for reference Complete an Association of Professionals Scholarship Application form available from the NCCC scholarship web page Submit materials to: Judy Steinberg jsteinberg@nccc.edu All materials should be scanned into one PDF file and emailed to the above by Deadline: April 16, 2018 4

ADIRONDACK BANK SCHOLARSHIP $2500 The scholarship will be available for students residing in any county where Adirondack Bank has an office. These counties include: Clinton, Franklin, Essex, Herkimer and Oneida Eligible applicants will be first year students attending NCCC on a fulltime basis (minimum 12 credits) The student must achieve a 2.5 grade point average to maintain the award The student must demonstrate financial need A complete scholarship application must include: A completed NCCC Foundation Scholarship Application Cover Page with this scholarship listed Statement of your educational plans and your future goals 5

Adirondack Foundation ALICE C. AGNEW SCHOLARSHIP $500 A graduate of Lake Placid Central School District or a current resident of Lake Placid Enrolled in either the LPN or RN Program Have no less than a 3.0 cumulative GPA Demonstrate financial need A complete scholarship application must include: A completed NCCC Foundation Scholarship Application Cover Page with this scholarship listed Paragraph which explains how you meet the criteria listed above, including the year you graduated from Lake Placid Central School District or how long you have resided in Lake Placid Statement of your educational plans and your future goals 6

New York State Federation of HOME BUREAUS SCHOLARSHIP 2 scholarships awarded amounts to be determined #1 - Nursing, Radiologic Technology or Human Services Scholarship in honor of the Franklin County Home Bureau for a student in Nursing, Radiologic Technology or Human Services Program, award is based on academic achievement. #2 Radiologic Technology or Criminal Justice Scholarship in honor of the Warren County Home Bureau for a student in the Radiologic Technology or Criminal Justice Program, award is based on academic achievement. JOSEPH S ADDICTION TREATMENT & RECOVERY CENTERS SCHOLARSHIP $1000 Be 21 years of age or older Have returned to school after an absence Be a New York State resident Be enrolled in the AAS Chemical Dependency Counseling program or a related program A complete scholarship application must include: A completed St. Joseph s Scholarship Application (found on NCCC Foundation Scholarship website) Verification of enrollment in the degree program A personal interview may be requested St. Joseph s Addiction Treatment & Recovery Centers Scholarship Committee Attn: Katie Kirkpatrick P.O. NY POLICE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP for New York State Law Enforcement Dependents Up to $9,000 Recipient must be a dependent or immediate family member of a police officer killed or disabled in the line of duty Must be enrolled in NCCC as a full-time student and maintain good academic standing A complete scholarship application must include: A completed NCCC Foundation Scholarship Application Cover Page with this scholarship listed Statement of your educational plans and your future goals Include a letter from the police department s chief official (on department letterhead) verifying the law enforcement officer s service 10

GINSBERG FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP Amount to be determined Be registered to attend NCCC on either full-time or part-time basis Demonstrate merit as well as financial need Preference will be given to students who have discontinued their education and are returning to complete a certificate or degree A complete scholarship application must include: A completed NCCC Foundation Scholarship Application Cover Page with this scholarship listed A statement which explains how you meet the criteria listed above. Adirondack Foundation HELEN AND RALPH ARNOLD NURSING EDUCATION FUND SCHOLARSHIP $500 Enrolled in a program leading to RN licensing 22 years of age or older Experience in providing some sort of health-related service, such as to family members, as a home health aide, or volunteer in a healthcare services environment desired. Adirondack Foundation JULIE LAMY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 Currently an NCCC Liberal Arts student pursuing a later transfer for a teaching career OR a student in the Nursing Program pursuing a career as an LPN or RN A student 25 years of age or older starting his/her second-year with a cumulative 3.0+ GPA A complete scholarship application must include: A completed NCCC Foundation Scholarship Application Cover Page with this scholarship listed A paragraph which explains how you meet the criteria listed above Statement of your educational plans and your future goals 17

PETTY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 Be a second year, returning NCCC student who exemplifies leadership characteristics while actively participating in NCCC sponsored or community service activities Must be in good academic standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA Must have made a significant contribution to the College community particularly as it relates to the advancement of the mutual interest of students, the college or the community Must have shown exemplary leadership skills while at NCCC Must maintain a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA for a second semester award A complete scholarship application must include: A completed NCCC Foundation Scholarship Application Cover Page with this scholarship listed Include a paragraph addressing high school, college and/or community activities demonstrating exceptional leadership abilities, such as coordinating a community based program, being captain of an athletic team, etc. 19

CHAPIN DAVIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Sponsored by Kenneth Doyle up to $2,500 Be registered in the NCCC Nursing Program (RN or LPN) Demonstrate a special passion for human kindness, patient care, compassion and respect for the elderly A complete application will consist of: A completed NCCC Foundation Scholarship Application Cover Page with this scholarship listed A paragraph which explains how you meet the criteria listed above Statement of your educational plans and your future goals 21

CAN-AM RUGBY CLUB, INC. SCHOLARSHIP $500 Be a second year or returning student Must be in good academic standing with a minimum 3.2 GPA Must demonstrate financial need Student with no disciplinary action at NCCC Preference will be given to those participating in athletic activities A complete scholarship application must include: A completed NCCC Foundation Scholarship Application Cover Page with this scholarship listed Include a paragraph addressing high school, college and/or community activities demonstrating exceptional leadership abilities, such as coordinating a community based program, being captain of an athletic team, etc. 22

Additional Scholarships Additional scholarships have been established for college students by generous donors in the community. See the following pages information on some of our area scholarships. These scholarships are not administered by the NCCC Foundation and applications must be sent directly to the sponsoring group or organizations. Be sure to read the scholarship criteria carefully and follow instruction when applying. Good Luck! 23

ALICE HYDE MEDICAL CENTER AUXILIARY SCHOLARSHIP Applicants must be planning to pursue a course of study in a HEALTH CARE PROFESSION and be a RESIDENT of the area that the AHMC serves (Brushton-Moira, Chateaugay, Malone, St. Regis Falls, Salmon River). There are two types of scholarships: 1. Students who are starting their first year of study in a health care profession should apply. This scholarship will be $300 and will be awarded in June at Franklin Academy. 2. Students who have successfully completed one or more years of study and are continuing their education in a health care profession should apply. This scholarship will be $800 and will also be presented in June at F.A.. Completed applications must include an Alice Hyde Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship form (found on the NCCC scholarship web site) plus the following: 1. Cover letter describing financial need, reason for choosing this health care profession, career goals and current extra curricular activities 2. One recent letter of reference, other than your New Vision H.C. Teacher 3. Current official school or college transcript 4. Saranac Lake Voluntary Health Association Scholarship Opportunity for Students Enrolled in the Nursing or Radiology Tech Programs Recipients must follow the following criteria: Be enrolled full time and in good academic standing Be a resident of Essex, Franklin or Hamilton County Have been accepted to the Registered Nursing program or second year of the Radiology Tech Program at NCCC for the 2018-19 year Show care, compassion and overall excellence in dealing with patients A Complete Application will consist of: Cover letter with contact information and a brief essay describing your educational/life journey thus far Two letters of recommendation, with at least one from a health care professional or instructor in your academic program Transcript of current year s academic studies Please email a photo of yourself that will be used in a press release announcing the recipients. The Bruce L. Crary Foundation, Inc. The Deo B. Colburn Education Foundation The Lake Placid Education Foundation Going Back to School? Need some help? Scholarships up to $3000 available Three North Country foundations announce the continuation of a joint effort to support students over 25 years of age. The program targets older students who wish to begin or continue their college education. The Bruce L. Crary Foundation, the Deo B. Colburn Education Foundation and the Lake Placid Education Foundation will accept applications for the 2018-2019 academic year starting in March. Students who wish to begin or continue their undergraduate program, or who were unable to complete the requirements of their undergraduate college degree, and now plan to return to school are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be area residents, 25 years of age or older, who have been accepted for full-time studies at a regional college for the Fall Semester. Women s College Scholarship Club The Ilsa Gronemeijer Continuing Education Scholarship PO Box 343 Saranac Lake, New York This scholarship is for: Scholarship Guidelines Adults returning to school after an absence from formal education of a year or more and who are residents of the Saranac Lake Central School District. 1. Applicants must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. 2. Applicants must provide financial information. 3. Applicants must fill out a short application. 4. A short history and goals statement must be submitted in a personal letter with the application (application is separate). 5. Alfred M. Aseel Legacy Scholarship This scholarship is available to non-traditional students (25 years of age or older) attending North Country Community College, SUNY Potsdam, or SUNY Canton or Clinton Community College. The scholarship will support one student from Tupper Lake or its immediate surrounding area (e.g. Piercefield, Conifer) wishing to pursue an educational experience that allows them to re-invent themselves and their future. The award is renewable annually if the recipient maintains the eligibility criteria. Eligibility: 1. Reside in Tupper Lake or immediate surrounding area 2. Demonstrate integrity and good character 3. Show personal commitment and potential to succeed 4. Maintain a cumulative GPA 2.5 or greater. The Edna A. Lauterbach Scholarship This scholarship was established in memory of Edna Lauterbach, RN, former President of Competent Care, Inc. and American Care, Inc. of Newburgh, New York. The fund is sponsored by Community Health Care Services Foundation, Inc. (CHC), an affiliate of the New York State Association of Health Care Providers, Inc. (HCP). The Edna A. Lauterbach Scholarship is offered every Spring to: 1. New York State licensed practical nurses (LPN) or registered nurses (RN) currently holding a nursing license in New York State 2. Applicant must be interested in pursuing or furthering their careers in home and community-based care. 3. $5000 SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE TO COMMUNITY COLLEGE FEMALE STUDENTS TRANSFERRING TO ANY ACCREDITED FOUR YEAR COLLEGE The Finch College Alumni Association Foundation Trust makes it possible for today s young women to continue college and begin preparing for professional careers. THE FREYA MOSKOWITZ STERN SCHOLARSHIP is named in memory of our Finch College graduate through a generous donation from her family. It is awarded annually to four Community College women in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area who are transferring to any accredited four-year college in The United States. Each scholarship totals $5,000 and is awarded in two segments: $2,500 upon acceptance to the four-year college, and another $2,500 upon entering her final term before graduation. THE FINCH COLLEGE ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP is also awarded to a Community College woman in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area transferring to any accredited four-year college in The United States.
