The member is required to be physically involved on a daily basis in watering, feeding, decision making and care for their project animal. EXHIBIT: Enter and exhibit animal(s) raised for this Market Hog project in as many classes as they are eligible including showmanship. 140 - SWINE BREEDING PROJECT AND RECORD BOOK PROJECT: The member is required to have physical possession of the project animal by MAY 1. EXHIBIT: Enter Swine Breeding project and bring completed project book for interview grading on Tuesday, July 4, at 4:00 p.m. REQUIRED RESOURCE SUPPLEMENT FOR SWINE PROJECTS 134R Swine Resource Handbook for Market and Breeding Projects - Order only once and use for several years. It contains essential subject matter information for members taking a market hog or swine breeding project. This is an excellent resource for Skillathon. (Cost is $15.00) NEW FOR 2018: SKILLATHON To enhance the learning experience for youth exhibiting livestock at the fair. Youth are required to attend and participate in at least one skillathon to complete their project and be eligible for exhibition at the Marion County Fair. In order to exhibit at the Ohio State Fair, all county requirements must be met. An alternative completion option is available for those that cannot attend the appropriate skillathon on June 20, by contacting the Extension Office to set up an appointment. Those who participate in the alternative completion option will be ineligible for Outstanding Market Exhibitor. To be eligible for Outstanding Market Exhibitor, youth must participate in each skillathon for the desired specie. For example, if Margo wants to be eligible for both market lamb and market swine OME, she must participate in both the sheep and swine skillathon. GENERAL RULES FOR MARION COUNTY FAIR SWINE SHOW 1. Pen assignments will be made by the Junior Fair Board Department Superintendents. You may request your pen on your entry form, no assignments guaranteed. 2. NO STRAW permitted 3. All pens must be cleaned daily by 10:00 a.m. 4. Any breeder that has sold in to a Marion County junior fair exhibitor is not permitted to be in the show ring or have contact with the judge at any time. Exception: If a 4-H youth or FFA youth sells 2

animals to another junior fair exhibitor, they are permitted to show their project animals but may not help out in the show ring in other ways. 5. All swine entering grounds and being exhibited will be terminal! All exhibit animals will go directly to slaughter. 6. See fraud and deception rule number 10 in Ag. Rules. 7. All exhibitors must participate in the Quality Assurance Program. 8. Skillathon - Exhibitor must participate in a Skillathon to be eligible for any premiums. 9. All exhibitors must abide by dress code rules. Jr. Fair Exhibitors Dress Code for Livestock Shows and Sale: As street clothes are not show clothes, the following will be enforced at the 2018 Marion County Fair: Full length pants are required. (Belts are strongly encouraged.) No hats may be worn. The only exception is for horse shows and all requirements for hats in horse department must be met. Closed toe shoes are required. (Hard soled shoes are recommended. No clogs or slides.) Shirts must have collars, sleeves, and be tucked in. (No halter-tops, tank tops, etc. will be allowed. Bare midriff and/or navel are not to show.) Writing on shirts may include 4-H clubs, FFA Chapters, etc., but cannot include farm names, family names or ads. Anyone not in compliance with the dress code will be given a chance to change into an outfit that meets the above rules immediately prior to the show. If at any time during a show a member is not in compliance with the dress code he or she will be disqualified from both the show and the sale. The leadership from each department, in combination with the Senior Fair Board will enforce these rules. Plan ahead to have appropriate clothes on show & sale day. MARKET SWINE CLASSES All Market Swine must weigh between 220# and 280# to be eligible for Champions and sale. All Market Swine will be divided by weight into 3 weight divisions -- heavy (265-280 lbs.), middle (240-264 lbs.), light (220-239 lbs.). Each division will be divided by barrows and gilts. Those divisions will be further subdivided into equal weight classes. Animals of equal weight exhibited by the same individual will be assigned different weight classes. Class winners will compete for Division Champion and Reserve Champion honors. Division Champion gilts and barrows will compete for Overall Division Champion and Overall Reserve Division Champion honors. Overall Division Champions will compete for Grand and Reserve Grand Champions. Banners will be awarded for Overall Division Champions and Overall Reserve Champions, Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion. Eight (8) through and including thirteen (13) years old as of January 1 may enter the Junior Husbandry category. 2018 PORK QUEEN/PRINCESS COUNTY RULES I. QUALIFICATIONS AND SELECTION A. PRINCESS: Contestant must be single, age 8 thru 13 as of January 1. QUEEN: Contestant must be single, age 14 thru 18 as of January 1. B. Contestants are ineligible to receive princess/queen honors in consecutive years. They may apply and receive the same honor again after sitting out one year. II. CONTEST PROCEDURES AND JUDGING A. Contestant must give a short oral presentation not to exceed four minutes on any subject pertaining to the pork industry. B.
