THE DIRECTOR CONSIDERING that the Grant is awarded for the action entitled Evolving Security SciencE through Networked Technologies, Information policy And Law ESSENTIAL ; CONSIDERING that CNRITTIG is beneficiary of the ESSENTIAL project that has received funding from the European Union s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie SkłodowskaCurie Grant Agreement No 722482; CONSIDERING that the ESSENTIAL Project is devoted to develop security science by addressing two of its main problems: the adhoc approach to security research and the growing complexity of the security environment. To do so, ESSENTIAL has set itself two main goals: a) to train interdisciplinary security experts and professionals to tackle security threats in a systematic manner and b) to increase societal resilience and security by addressing in an interdisciplinary manner 15 research topics, each associated with longstanding problems in the field of security science ranging from modeling security perception and democratizing intelligence to improving security and privacy in data ecosystems. ESSENTIAL will be the first programme of its kind that aims to jointly educate the next generation of interdisciplinary experts in security science, by uniquely exposing the 15 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) to: (1) theoretical knowledge and practical expertise in such areas as: (a) the policing and regulation of informationsecurity technology, and (b) the implementation of policies and legal standards within computing and communication systems; (2) realworld environments in law enforcement, intelligence and industry; (3) strong academic guidance offered by highly qualified supervisors and mentors; (4) high tech research infrastructures; and (5) a diversity of interdisciplinary research events, such as workshops, conferences, summer/winter schools. ANNOUNCES the Call for application for the ESR06 position under the following conditions: Application status: Open. Research project: Standards in Evidence. Objectives: This research critically examines the value of the development and adoption of European and possibly universal standards for the collection, onward transmission, use and longterm storage of digital evidence irrespective of whether it was borndigital or whether it is the digital version of an analogue source. The objective of this research is to map out progress and lacunae on international standard setting in the area of digital forensics, digital archive sciences and digital evidence by a painstaking examination of the custody of evidence lifecycle. Expected outcomes: The overall result is a critical dissertation mapping out progress and lacunae on international standard setting in the area of digital forensics, digital archive sciences and digital evidence and proposals for future scenarios. ESR6 will publish regularly in specialised peerreviewed journals on standards (and the lack of them) in different stages of the digital evidence life cycle, participate and present in one workshop, write two research reports and a final dissertation. The test results must not be older than 24 months on the date of the application deadline. Selection criteria: Quality of the candidate assessed through the candidate s academic merit and relevant professional experience. Candidates with a proven track record in the fields of digital forensics or computer science/it will be given preference. It would be an advantage if the candidate has had work experience in the fields of criminal investigations, secure communication systems, or mobile device forensics.
