ST. JOHN CEMETERY Serving All Denominations For Over 145 Years Lodge Topics The next few months are the most exciting of the Elk year. The lodge s new officers have been elected, and the new Exalted Ruler is busy selecting his yearly committees. To all of our members, now is the time to get involved and make a difference within your lodge. In April, the new House Committee and the lodge Trustees will establish the yearly budget. This event, more than any other, will set the direction of our lodge for the next year. If as a member, you are satisfied with the direction of the last few years, then by all means just sit back and do nothing. If you are pleased with less and less entertainment in the Antler Room and a continued stale Friday night menu, then by all means sit at home and withhold your support of your lodge. Surely our local bars can give you the entertainment, beer prices, and quality food service that you are looking for. The local bars, I am sure, will appreciate your business. After all, you pay your yearly dues to your Elks lodge, and surely that is enough support and all that your lodge has a right to expect. The members of our lodge need to ask themselves, What were they looking for when they joined the Granite City Elks Lodge? They need to ask themselves, Have I found what I was looking for, here within this lodge? If the answers to these questions are a negative response, then they need to ask themselves, Why Not? The answers to these questions are simple enough. Brothers and Sisters, There is no Free Lunch!. The yearly dues you pay give you the Right to call yourself and Elk!. Your dues give you the Opportunity to belong to a truly great organization. The events that are offered, the food that is presented, the entertainment that you enjoy all come with a cost. A great cost more than just money. In order for our Elks family of Brothers and Sisters to survive, to endure, we all must donate our support, our participation. We, as Elk members, must give of our time and efforts, in support of our lodge. This lodge needs the energy, the new ideas, the different experiences of our new members. We need the guidance and the advice of our senior members. In short we need to work together as the family that we are. Let us step up, and be counted. Make this Elk experience that you have joined a fruitful One. Step up and meet the family that you have joined. Look for ways to support your lodge. There is one more very important need for our lodge to continue. To the members that will be sitting in the lodge chairs this coming year, Please, keep an open mind towards new ideas! To the different committees please find ways to work together and learn to compromise. We do have a large family. Not everyone of your Brothers or Sisters see the lodge in the same light as you do. 7
