GENERAL RULES ALLIED HEALTH CATALOG 138 I. REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO THE PROFESSIONAL PHASE OF THE PROGRAM The Professional Phase indicates preparedness for upper level coursework. 1) Complete the following courses with a grade of C or better: ENGL 104/103 COMM 203/205 MATH 141/166 BIOL 107/111 CHEM 101&111 BIOL 319 BIOL 320 HLTH 210 HLTH 231 HLTH 240 *You may be enrolled in these courses during the semester in which you apply *Must have a B/C grade combination in ENGL 104 and COMM 203 * Students planning to go to Physician s Assistant, Physical Therapy, Optometry, and Pharmacy schools must take BIOL 111 2) Minimum GPR Requirement: 2.5 Overall at TAMU (must have 15 graded hours at TAMU) 3) Submit a resume with application 4) Submit application form by February 15 th for Summer Acceptance, July 1 st for Fall Acceptance and September 15 th for Spring Acceptance. You will receive official notification of your acceptance or denial into the professional phase of the program approximately two weeks after TAMU grades are posted for the semester. II. III. DIRECTED ELECTIVES Students must select one of the professional school electives areas (nursing, physical therapy, etc.) on the attached document from which to satisfy the 18 hour directed electives requirement. 1. Students must choose a directed elective list before they complete 30 hours. 2. Students may select directed electives from one professional path. RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT Students must take 36 hours of upper (300-400) level course work from TAMU. If students complete all courses of the Allied Health degree requirements at TAMU, then students will meet the Residency requirement set by the University. Students who transfer in some courses from community college may need to take more upper level hours in order to meet this requirement. See Residency Worksheet in packet.

IV. Requirements for Graduation 1. Submit departmental Intent to Graduate form (http://mycehd.tamu.edu), and Residency Worksheet (in packet) by the deadline (February 15 th, July 1 st, or September 15 th ) two (2) semesters before graduation semester. (Fall graduation: February 15 th ; Spring graduation: July 1 st ; Summer graduation: September 15 th ) 2. Complete the following courses with a C or better: Bolded Classes, Major (HLTH AND KINE), Directed Elective Courses and Free Electives (Also applies to courses transferred to Texas A&M). 3. Successfully complete ALL degree plan courses with required grade in each 4. Minimum GPR Requirement: 2.5 overall at TAMU 5. Apply for graduation and Add/Pay Diploma Fee the semester you are graduating. 6. Transfer all applicable courses to A&M s Admission s Office. V. Progress Towards Degree- Students must show progress towards their degree by completing a combined total of 24 credit hours on their degree plan during the fall and spring semesters. At the end of the spring semester, students who did not complete 24 credit hours on their degree plan will be placed on probation. They must complete at least 12 hours on their degree plan plus make up any additional hours not completed the year before during the next fall semester. Failure to do so will result in dismissal from the department. VI. HLTH 216 Students must have two hours not being utilized in any other requirement to sub for the HLTH 216 waiver. Students are not allowed to take the HLTH 216 Weekend Waiver course during their final semester at TAMU. Students will have to register for the HLTH 216 course if this occurs. VII. Degree Planner Requirement All students entering Texas A&M University in fall 2013 or later are required by TEC 51.9685 (formerly House Bill 3025) to complete an online undergraduate degree plan. Students are required to complete the Undergraduate Degree Planner before the start date of their second year. The Undergraduate Degree Planner is in Howdy on the My Record tab in the Undergraduate Degree Planner channel. Guides for using the Undergraduate Degree Planner are also available in Howdy.

Allied Health Directed Electives List Students must select one of the professional school elective areas (nursing, physical therapy, etc.) below to satisfy the 18 hour professional development electives requirement. Directed electives should be used to satisfy requirements to attend professional school in an Allied Health area. In addition to the health classes listed, any other health class not on the degree plan (with the exception of HLTH 415, 425, 440 and 484) can also be used as a directed elective. To graduate, Texas A&M University students must meet residency requirement of 36 hours of upper level (300-400 level) courses (HLTH 415, 425, 440 and 484 cannot be used to satisfy this requirement). Students must select electives wisely in order to meet the residency requirements in this degree.
