The Honorable Lloyd Doggett United States House of Representatives, District 25 of Texas U.S. Congressman Lloyd Doggett serves on the House Budget Committee and the House Ways and Means Committee. He was re-elected to serve a second two-year term as Chairman of the Texas Democratic delegation. While his congressional district may have changed many times over the years, his values have not. Rep. Doggett has always stood strong for our veterans, working to bring a VA Clinic to Fayette County, as well as a state-of-the-art VA Outpatient Clinic. He also voted to approve one of the largest increases in veteran funding in the 77 year history of the VA, to ensure our local Veterans will have better access to the health care facilities and the educational benefits they have earned. At the University of Texas in Austin, Doggett was elected Student Body President in 1967 and graduated first in his class from the College of Business Administration. Later, he graduated from the UT School of Law with honors, while serving as an associate editor of the Texas Law Review. Elected to the Texas Senate, he became known for his untiring work ethic. From 1988-1994, as a Justice on the Texas Supreme Court, he wrote opinions supporting the right to a trial by jury and authored an important rule bolstering the public s access to information. He also served as Chair of the Supreme Task Force on Judicial Ethics and was recognized as an Outstanding Judge in Texas by the Mexican-American Bar of Texas. Larry Velasquez State Senior Vice Commander for the Department of Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars Larry Velasquez, a life member of the John N. Timon VFW Post 2397 in Corpus Christi, Texas, was elected as the State Senior Vice Commander for the Department of Texas VFW at the 91st State Convention in Houston, Texas on July 1, 2011. A Veterans of Foreign Wars member since 1997, Larry has served in numerous capacities at the District and Post level. Comrade Velasquez has served as District Commander, Post Quartermaster, and District and Post Trustee. Comrade Velasquez has also served on numerous committees at the National and Departmental level. He has served two terms as Department Surgeon, and previously served as the Chairman of the Department Budget Finance Committee for two terms. Comrade Velasquez was in the United States Army from 1970 to 1973. In 1975, he reenlisted in the Army and retired as a First Sergeant in 1995. His overseas service was in Germany, Korea, Egypt, and the Persian Gulf. His awards include the Legion of Merit, Army Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal (4th Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement, Humanitarian Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. Comrade Velasquez earned his eligibility for the VFW while serving with the 1st Infantry Division while attached to the 18th Airborne Corp as a Medevac 1SG during operation Desert Storm. Larry was enrolled at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, completing three years of college. Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, Larry is married to Pat, and has four children, Yvette, Gene, Alex and Ana. Pat is a life member and Senior Vice at Post 2397. Larry enjoys history, especially military history. Special Acknowledgement to DAVCAR Engineering Services
