This increase on he previous monh for he Communiy as a whole of 7.5 %is he resul of ircreases of 7 %indenmark, 5 $ ingermany, 9 $ in Ialy, 6 %inhe Unied Kingdom, 4 %inhe Neherlands, 3 %inprance, 2 %in Ireland and %inbelgium. The general rend, however, would seem, according o daa forhe Communiy as a whole, correced for seasonal variaions o be owards a slowing down in he rae of increase, hough he level sill remains high. ANNEX TECHNICAL NOTE CONCERNING FIGURES OF REGISTERED UNEMPLOYMENT AND VACANCIES This Saisical Telegram is based on naional daa on numbers of persons regisered a employmen exchances. The informaion ÌB obained by regular ransmission o he Saisical Office of he European Communiies. The definiions have been sandardized in a number of respecs bu complee comparabiliy is no possible, naional legislaion and adminisraive pracices are oo differen. The saisics are herefore mainly inended for sudies of rends. Similarly he bases of calculaion of he percenages of regisered unemploymen in he oal civilian labour force (calculaed on he average labour force of he previous year ) have been sandardized in a number of respecs. They arc herefore somewha boer suied for comparison of rends han he unemploymen raes calculaed naionally on differen basca in he various counries. However, i mus be emphasized ha he degree of sandardizaion is insufficien o permi direc comparison eiher of absolue levels or of raes of unemploymen) any such analysis mus be made wih exreme cauion. The following daa have been used F.R. OF GERMANY χ Unemployed according o he definiion of he Bundesansal für Arbei, namely persons wihou job seeking permanen work for a leas 20 hours a week. FRANCE ITALY NETHERLANDS BELGIUM LUXEMBOURG UNITED KINGDOM IRELAND DENMARK As defined by he Minisère du Travail and regisered a he Agence Naionale pour l'emploi persons wihou work available o sar work immediaely and seeking permanen employmen for a leas 30 hours a week.» Persons regisered in classes I and II on labour exchange lise provided by he Minisero del Lavoro e della Previdenza Sociale. These comprise unemployed persons who have worked before as well as young per ons under 2 years and oher persons seeking heir firs job, including hose who have finished heir legal miliary service and are seeking work.! According o agreemens reached in he working pary of he Saisical Office, he sandardized figures in principle do no include shor ime work for economic and meeorological reasons, unemployed persons aking par in vocaional raining schemes and persons for whom work has been provided by public iniiaives in order o avoid unemploymen. In some cases his may no be he usual naional undersanding of regisered unemploymen. The naional daa published are absolue figures wihou seasonal adjusmen. For comparison figures for he corresponding monh of he previous year are shown. Siuaion a he end of he monh means a he las day of he monh excep for Unied Kingdom where hey refer o he second Thursday of he monh, Ireland o he las Friday of he monh and Denmark o he las Wednesday of he monh. All regisraions during he monh are included and he oals shown gross, ha is, wihou deducion of regisraions cancelled during he monh. To mee general demand, figures of unfilled or regisered vacancies have been added o his elegram. I mus however be born in mind ha hese cover only noificaions o employmen exchanges and hus do no always reflec he acual siuaion, especially in counries wih high unemploymen when enerprises may easily obain workers wihou he help of he employmen exchange offices.
