SREE BUDDHA COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING FOR WOMEN, ELAVUMTHITTA Report on Ekathra 14 Our college Sree Buddha College of Engineering for Women, Elavumthitta conducted its technical fest Ekathra 14 on 05/03/2014 and 06/03/2014. The underlying spirit of the competitions was "Technology is fun" a motto that has been followed in our Techfest. Ekathra 14 also set the broad outlines of Techfest in the form of competitions, paper presentation and exhibitions which went on to become a standard feature of the Techfest. In short Ekathra 14 showcased technological entertainment, was a grand success. The inaugural function started with a welcome speech by Prof. V. Prasad, Vice Chairman, SBCEW and was inaugurated by chief guest Sri. B. Mohanan IAS, Dist Collector Pathanamthitta. The event was presided by Principal Dr. E Gopalakrishna Sarma. It was followed by Chairman s message and felicitation by Dr. K. I. Koshy, Vice Principal, SBCEW. The inaugural function came to an end by 11.30am with national anthem sung by students. The main attraction of the tech fest was the general paper presentation, ENTREGA coordinated by Ms. Priya V.M & Ms. Remya Raj K.R, faculty Basic Science department, conducted on the first day morning session. There were five teams from various colleges and the event was judged by a panel of senior faculties from different departments. The first prize worth Rs. 3000/ went to the team from Rajagiri School of Enginneering & Technology, Ernakulam and second prize worth Rs.1500/ went to the student from Sri Vellappally Natesan College of Engineerng, Mavelikkara. Participation certificate was awarded to all the participants. The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering conducted Project Exhibition EXIBEO coordinated by Mr. Sudhi Sudharman, (Assistant Professor, ECE Dept.). Project expo included various projects done by ECE students. Electronics room and mini project exhibition were the main attractions of the Exibeo. Exibeo was a techno extravaganza of Ekathra 14. The Department of Civil Engineering conducted Exhibition EUNOIA The expo was opened soon after the launching of Ekathra 14. It was a splendid one with 19 various models containing a miniature of Idukki dam, Palm Island, BurjKhalifa, Airport, water treatment plant, tree hut, Tunnel, Waste Building, 1

Ice Hotel, model of SBCEW, Pyramid, Landscape, Intelligent Building and various types of Roofs, Bridges etc.in addition to the above models, pictorial representations of various Civil Engineering structures around the world were also exhibited. The expo was opened for the two full days of the Tech Fest. All the students, teaching and non-teaching staff of CE Dept. actively participated in Tech Fest to make it a grand success. There was also a project expo EXPEDITIOUS organized by the students of AE & IE Dept which gave an opportunity for the students to exhibit their creativity, which was co-ordinated by the entire AE Department. Ecosystem model and LED Skelton system was the highlight of the expo. Expeditious exhibited biomedical charts, two dimensional models of water treatment plant, geothermal power plant and iron and steel industry. The instruments like U- tube manometer and dead weight tester were also included in the expo. Power point presentation highlighted the information regarding several sectors in instrumentation. EXPEDITIOUS was an informative and a grant successful part of EKATHRA 14. One of the attraction of the tech fest was the mega event Mr & Ms EKATHRA 14 co-ordinated by Ms. Vidya N & Ms. Liji Samuel, Assistant Professor, CSE department. The event was to ensure the general awareness and cultural aspect of the participants. There were 11 participants from various colleges Mr EKATHRA was bagged by Anoop Sugathan of SNIT Engineering College, Adoor and Ms EKATHRA was bagged by Helan Mary of Saintgits College of Engineering. The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs 5000 each. VANIK THE SELLER OF THE YEAR co-ordinated by Ms. Vani V Prakash & Ms. Sruthy S, Assistant Professor, CSE department,vanik gave an opportunity for the students to show case their ideas in selling and management skills. Six members participated in this event, of which the winner is Khayiz Ibin Subair(Sree Narayana Institute of Technology). The winner was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 3000.The second and third prize was bagged by Anusree Lal(Mount 2

Zion College of Engineering for Women) and Anoop Sugathan(SNIT) respectively. A treasure hunt competition DASH 4 CASH was conducted on 06/03/2014, which was co-ordinated by Mr. Shankar N, Head of the Department of Applied Electronics & Instrumentation. Eight teams from various engineering colleges participated and the event was judged by Mr. Shankar N along with other faculty members. The first prize of Rs 5,000/- was awarded to a team from Sree Buddha College of Engineering, Pattoor. Participation Certificate was given to rest of the teams. Lively event in the tech fest was Super Dancer ROCK n ROLL judged by Ms. R. L. V. Shiji, co-ordinated by Ms. Supriya L. P, Assistant Professor Department of Computer Science and Mr. Prasanth V, Assistant Professor Department of Basic Science. The prize worth Rs. 10,000/ went to student from Saintgits College of Engg.,Pathamuttam.The second prize of Rs. 5,000/ was won by Sri vellapally Natesan College of Engg., Mavelikara. A Consolation prize of Rs. 1,000/ was given to team from SNIT,Adoor. The short film competition LUMIERE co-ordinated by Mr.Lenin Joseph and Ms. Keerthana. P, Assistant Professor, EC department was conducted on the second day morning session. The first prize worth Rs 5000/- went to team from NSS College of Engg., Palakkad. Participation certificate were given to rest of the teams. The following departmental activities were conducted in these two days. The Department of Applied Electronics & Instrumentation and Electrical & Electronics Engineering conducted a quiz programme BRAIN STROM coordinated by Mr. Shankar N, Head of the Department of Applied Electronics &Instrumentation. BRAIN STROM was conducted on 05/03/2014 in the college seminar hall. Five teams from various engineering colleges participated and the event was judged by Mr. Shankar N along with other faculty members.the first prize of Rs 3,000/- was awarded to a team from Mount Zion College of Engineering, Pathanamthitta. The second prize of 2,000/- was won by team from SNIT, Adoor. Participation Certificate was given to rest of the teams.the program was a huge success and entertained the audience as well. 3

The Department of Civil Engineering Conducted Best Creator Concepteur, CAD DRAWING BEST DESIGNER co-ordinated by Ms. Raji Karuna,(Assistant Professor, ECE Dept.). CONCEPTEUR(BEST CREATOR): 12 groups (2 persons per group) from various colleges participated and the first prize was awarded to students from ST Thomas College of Engineering, Kozhuvallur with a prize money of Rs.3000/- and the second prize worth Rs.1500/- was given to students from SBCE,Pattoor. BEST DESIGNER(CAD CONTEST): 13 participants from various colleges participated in CAD CONTEST and the first prize was awarded to students from SNIT, Adoor with a prize money of Rs.3000/- and the second prize worth Rs.1500/- was given to students from ST Thomas College of Engineering, Kozhuvallur. The Department of Computer Science & Engineering conducted Code debugging IDEONE co-ordinated by Ms. Maya John & Ms. Anjana P Nair,(Assistant Professor, CSE Dept.). IDEONE:- The event aimed at checking the skills of participants in C, C++, Java and Oracle with respect to the syntax and semantics of programming along with their skill in fixing errors. Twelve teams participated in the event. The first prize was bagged by Allan George and Geo J Thachankary (Mount Zion College of Engineering). The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs 5000. The second prize was bagged by Akash K M & Tomin Baby(G.E.C Wayanad) and third prize by Mathew Koshy(Saintgits College of Engineering) & Jebin George(Mount Zion College of Engineering). The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering conducted Circuit debugging TURBATIO BUG co-ordinated by Ms.Jisha Anu Jose,(Assistant Professor, ECE Dept.),and Concept Paper Presentaion PRASTUTI co-ordinated by Ms.Devi Murali,(Assistant Professor, ECE Dept.). Circuit debugging- five teams from various colleges participated in circuit debugging and first prize worth Rs.3000/ went to students from BMC College of Engineering and second prize worth Rs.1000/ was given to two teams one the students from Musaliar College of Engg. & Technology, Pathanamthitta and the other students from Sri Vellappally Natesan College of Engg., each team was awarded with the prize money and participation certificate was awarded to other participants. 4

Concept Paper Presentation was judged by Mr.Paul Ansel, HoD of department of Electronics and Communication Engg, Albertian Institute of Science and Technology, Kalamasssery and Mr. Prasanth V, (Assistant Professor, Basic Science Dept.,SBCEW) - Nine teams from various colleges participated in the event and first prize worth Rs.3500/ went to students from Mount Zion College of Engineering and second prize worth Rs.2500/ was given to student from Musaliar College of Engineering, Pathanamthitta. The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering conducted Who am I co-ordinated by Ms.Swathy C. S,(Assistant Professor, EEE Dept.),and Watch & Win coordinated by Ms.Lajitha Chandran,(Assistant Professor, EEE Dept.). Who Am I: 5 teams with strength of two members from various colleges participated the first prize was awarded to students from SNIT, Adoor with a prize money of Rs.3000/- and the second prize worth Rs.1500/- was given to students from Musliar College of Engineering, Pathanamthitta Watch & Win: 13 participants from various colleges participated. The first prize was awarded to student from Musaliar College of Engineering & Technology with a prize money of Rs.2000/- and the second prize worth Rs.1000/- was given to students from RIT, Kottayam Miscellaneous Events Reflections was an online photography contest conducted in associated with EKATHRA 14 coordinated by Ms. Lashma K,(Assistant Professor, CSE Dept.). The theme of the contest was COLOR OF LIFE. There were 13 participants for the contest from different colleges; the photographs of the participants were posted in a facebook page created for the contest. 10 photographs with maximum likes were selected for the final judgement by the judges, among 25 different photographs. The judges selected a photograph mailed by Mr. Abhijith Jayan of Musaliar College of Engineering as the winning photograph of the contest. S(SBCEW), Tom George(SBCE), Akhil vijayan(svnce), Akhila soman (SBCEW), Geo babu(rpv), Sarananand S( Mangalam college), Ajmal A(Musaliar college of Engineering) An arena of attractive stalls was arranged by our students from various departments and two days of tech fest was really an enjoyable one with delicious food items and fresh juices. Food stalls, mehandi and earrings stall, palmistry stall were organized by the students. The dance performance by our students during the second day last session was really enjoyable. With the valedictory function on second day evening, the program came to an end. As a whole the program was a great success beyond our expectation, and for this we would like to thank our management and executive committee members for their full support and encouragement. We are also thankful to our respected Principal for his motivation and guidance. We extend our heartily gratitude to all the committee members teaching and non-teaching, administrative staff and our dedicated students. It has been great working with you all! Thank you very much for all your help and support! Last but not we express our thanks to the security staffs, bus crew and the cleaning staffs for their cooperation during the techfest. Coordinator 6
